Response to Juan Rodriguez

Hello Juan. Thanks for sharing your informative response on the topic of applying

nursing theories into practice. I strongly agree with your viewpoint that nursing theory consists

of numerous conceptual models and frameworks that guide nursing education, practice,

administration, and research. Moreover, the information you provided on nursing theories

offering a basis for understanding the science of nursing and helping nurses deliver evidence-

based and high-quality care is accurate. Building on your discussion, the other function of

nursing theories is improving professional autonomy. According to Gottlieb et al. (2021), nursing

theories empower nurses by improving their professional autonomy. Through nurses depending

on the well-established theoretical frameworks, they can justify their actions and decisions

depending on scientific principles, which reinforces their roles in the healthcare team and

reinforces a sense of professional confidence and identity (Gottlieb et al.,2021). The other

significant point is that nursing theories aid in enhancing patient outcomes. Research illustrates

that the application of nursing theories such as Orem's Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory aids

nurses in evaluating the patient’s capability to perform self-care; hence, they are able to create

personalized care plans that result in patient-centered and effective care (Khademian et al.,2020).

Lastly, to continue this discussion, I am curious to know what approaches nursing educators can

use to incorporate nursing theories into the curriculum to prepare future nurses for theory-based

practice.
