Based on what we have learned in this lesson, discuss the following questions:

1. Which ONE (1) of the ELT methodologies is feasible for you, as an ESL teacher? Why so? (10
marks)

As an ESL teacher, one feasible ELT (English Language Teaching) methodology that I find suitable is
the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach. CLT emphasizes the use of authentic
communication and interactive activities to develop students' language skills. There are several
reasons why CLT is feasible for me as an ESL teacher. The first reason why CLT is feasible is because of
its student-centered approach. CLT places the learner at the center of the learning process. It
recognizes the importance of students actively engaging in meaningful communication and using
language in realistic contexts. This approach aligns with my belief in promoting student autonomy,
critical thinking, and active participation in the classroom.

Next, is because of the real-life language usage. CLT focuses on developing students' ability to use
language in real-life situations. It encourages students to communicate and interact in English by
engaging in tasks, role-plays, discussions, and problem-solving activities. This methodology facilitates
the practical application of language skills, preparing students for real-world language use. Moreover,
CLT encourages the use of authentic materials, such as newspaper articles, videos, podcasts, and
real-world texts, to expose students to genuine language use. This approach provides learners with
exposure to various language forms, registers, and cultural aspects of English, making their learning
experience more relevant and meaningful.

Furthermore, CLT promotes collaborative learning environments where students work together to
achieve communicative goals. This methodology encourages peer interaction, negotiation of
meaning, and cooperative learning. It allows students to learn from each other, develop
interpersonal skills, and build confidence in using English in a supportive classroom community. Last
but not least, CLT emphasizes the development of functional language skills, such as expressing
opinions, making requests, giving advice, and negotiating meaning. This approach helps students
develop the communicative competence needed to effectively communicate in real-life situations. It
also enables me, as a teacher, to design activities that target specific language functions and skills,
catering to the diverse needs of my students.

Overall, the CLT methodology aligns with my teaching philosophy and goals as an ESL teacher. It
promotes student-centered learning, real-life language use, authentic materials, collaborative
learning, and the development of functional language skills. By adopting CLT principles and
techniques, I believe I can create an engaging and effective learning environment that fosters
meaningful communication and language acquisition among my ESL students.
