REPORT ATHLETE

BACKGROUND
Weightlifting originated in ancient Greece and Egypt and was formalized in the 19th
century when the first tournament was held in England (1891). An important turning
point was when it was added to the modern Olympics in 1896. Acquiring a
combination of strength and accuracy, techniques like as the clean and jerk and
snatch have developed over time. The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF)
was founded in 1905 with the goal of governing the sport internationally. Because it
may improve strength and power, weightlifting is popular outside contests and is
now a mainstay of fitness regimens. It is a widely popular sport nowadays, with
records being broken and outstanding athletic accomplishments.

HISTORY
Weightlifting has long history, having originated in ancient Egypt, Greece, and China,
among other nations thousands of years ago. Early Olympic Games featured
strongman competitions in ancient Greece. The first contemporary competition was
held in England in 1891. Formal competitions initially appeared in the 19th century.
Olympic recognition for the sport came about in 1896. Snatch and clean techniques,
for example, became standardized and required a combination of strength and skill.
To oversee the sport internationally, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF)
was founded in 1905. Nowadays, weightlifting is a popular sport with a large global
following that is used as a component of fitness regimens.
TIMELINE OF WEIGHTLIFTING

1. Ancient Beginnings: Imagine ancient Greeks heaving stones and other heavy
objects as part of their physical training and competitions, laying the groundwork for
what would become weightlifting. They even incorporated it into the Olympics as
early as the 1st century AD.
2. 19th Century Revival: Picture strongmen in Europe during the 1800s showcasing
their strength in organized events, sparking a renewed interest in weightlifting as a
formal sport.
3. Olympic Debut: In 1896, weightlifting officially joined the modern Olympics in
Athens, Greece. Athletes competed in classic lifts like the snatch and the clean and
jerk, showcasing their raw power on a global stage.
4. Formation of Federations: As the sport gained traction, the International
Weightlifting Federation (IWF) was established in 1920, providing structure and
governance to competitions worldwide.
5. Post-War Rise: After World War II, weightlifting surged in popularity, with the Soviet
Union emerging as a powerhouse in the sport, dominating Olympic and World
Championship podiums.
6. Rule Changes and Innovation: Over the years, rules evolved, and some lifts, like the
clean and press, were phased out from Olympic competition due to safety concerns
and judging inconsistencies.
7. Inclusion of Women: The turn of the millennium marked a historic moment as
women's weightlifting was included in the Olympics for the first time in Sydney 2000,
breaking gender barriers and celebrating female strength on the global stage.
8. Modern-day Strength: Today, weightlifting continues to captivate audiences
worldwide, with athletes pushing the boundaries of human strength and
performance, setting new records and inspiring generations to come.
THE VENUE
Weightlifting takes place in a variety of locations; the typical backdrop is a gym or
fitness center with barbells and weights. Official competitions, from regional to
global levels, including major events like the Olympics, are held in competitive arenas.
For personal training, home gyms are convenient and frequently come with basic
lifting equipment. Weightlifting athletes are catered to by training facilities that
provide specialized coaching and resources. Furthermore, outdoor areas can
occasionally double as temporary venues particularly for strongman style training.
Each environment caters to the different requirements and tastes of weightlifters,
creating a lively and welcoming weightlifting community.

SCORING
In weightlifting, scoring is based on total weight lifted in two lifts: the snatch and
clean and jerk. Athletes aim to lift the heaviest weight possible in each, with
successful lifts judged on technical precision and control. The total weight lifted
determines rankings, with tiebreakers considering body weight and attempts made.
Judges ensure lifts meet strict standards, penalizing infractions like dropping
weights prematurely. The scoring system emphasizes strength, technique, and
strategic decision-making, as athletes strive to achieve their highest potential while
navigating the complexities of the sport's rules and regulations.
ATHLETE LEGEND IN WEIGHTLIFTING
One legend weightlifting athlete from Malaysia is Hafifi Mansor. He has represented
Malaysia in various international competitions, including the Southeast Asian Games
and Asian Weightlifting Championships. Mansor has achieved success in his
weightlifting career, demonstrating both strength and technical proficiency in the
sport. His dedication and performances have contributed to the promotion and
development of weightlifting in Malaysia, inspiring aspiring athletes and gaining
recognition for the country on the global stage.

CONNECT TO IT
1. Data Analysis and Tracking: To monitor their development, evaluate their lifts, and
schedule their training regimens, powerlifters frequently utilize technology. They may
track their strength improvements, keep thorough records of their lifts, and modify
their training plans with the aid of IT tools like apps, spreadsheets, and specialist
software.
2. Biomechanics and wearable technology: These two fields are vital to
biomechanical analysis, which helps powerlifters maximize their performance and
technique. Lifters are able to make adjustments and avoid injuries by using wearable
sensors such as gyroscopes and accelerometers, which can provide real-time data
on variables like range of motion, bar speed, and lifting mechanics.
3. Equipment and Gear: IT is engaged in the design, production, and distribution of
gear and equipment for powerlifting. Technology plays an important part in making
sure that lifters have access to high-quality equipment that matches their demands,
from sophisticated materials and ergonomic designs to e-commerce platforms and
supply chain management systems.
4. Online Communities and Coaching: A lot of powerlifters use online forums and
platforms to communicate with trainers, exchange training advice, and talk about the
most recent advancements in the sport. Through the transmission of information
made possible by IT, lifters can interact with a global community of athletes, engage
in virtual training sessions, and receive individualized coaching services.
