LÝ THUYẾT
1. Định nghĩa

Ví dụ 1:

- My mother waters the plants every morning.

Trong câu trên, chủ ngữ là my mother đang thực hiện hành động water → Câu chủ động có
chủ ngữ là người / vật thực hiện hành động.

Ví dụ 2:

- The plants are watered by my mother every morning.

Trong câu trên, chủ ngữ the plants bị tác động bởi hành động watered → Câu bị động có chủ
ngữ là người / vật bị tác động bởi hành động.

→ ĐỊNH NGHĨA

Câu chủ động Câu bị động

- Chủ ngữ là người / vật thực hiện hành động - Chủ ngữ là người / vật chịu sự tác động của
(ai làm gì) hành động (ai bị / được làm gì)

2. Các bước chuyển đổi

Ví dụ: My mother waters the plants every morning.

Bước 1: Xác định các thành phần S, V, O trong câu chủ động.

Trong câu trên:

- My mother là chủ ngữ

- Water là động từ

- The plants là tân ngữ

Bước 2: Chuyển tân ngữ trong câu chủ động làm chủ ngữ trong câu bị động.

O (Active Voice) → S (Passive voice)

Bước 3:

- Xác định thì câu chủ động

- Chia V-to be theo thì câu chủ động (thì trong ví dụ trên là Hiện tại đơn)

- Đổi động từ chính trong câu về dạng Quá khứ phân từ (water → watered)

- Thêm by và chuyển chủ ngữ sau by

- Viết các thành phần còn lại

Dựa vào các bước trên, ta có cấu trúc tổng quát như sau:

Chủ động: S + V + O

→ Câu bị động: S + to be + P2 + by O

4. Lưu ý
- Bỏ “by + O” nếu O là me, us, you, him, her, it, them, someone, somebody
- Dùng “with” thay cho “by” để chỉ công cụ/ nguyên liệu được sử dụng
Ex: The Jug is filled with hot water.
- Trạng từ chỉ nơi chốn + by + trạng từ chỉ thời gian
Ex: The cat was found in the box by the boy yesterday.
- Động từ không dùng ở dạng bị động: Nội động từ (boil, cry, die, ...); ngoại động từ (fit (vừa
vặn), have (có), lack (thiếu), resemble (giống), suit (phù hợp)
