Contract length and clients requirements. Are the work activities in accordance with the contract programme?
The principal contractor will meet the client’s requirements through selection process. The contractor will meet
the project requirements in relation to site conditions availability of resources. Regular design team and build
team meetings to discuss requirements. Agree on all aspects of the contract to meet the client’s requirements
on site to full fill the contract. Record all information and disseminate to all parties involved in the contract so
they have an understanding of the work scope to be undertaken and can prepare for every event. The
requirement of health and safety for operatives will need to be taken in to account in the form of risk assessment

Questions and Answers

NVQ LEVEL 3 Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision (Construction)

The different methods and sources the influence each other are having schedules in place supervisor checking
that the schedule is being met. Also involved in this kind of auditing is looking at the labour to see if it’s not
overlapped on each other making sure each phase is on the correct path. Regular monitoring needs to be done
on the labour to make sure there is enough to complete the work. This needs to be monitored in tandem with
resources and work equipment, has been ordered is on site, or in transit to site and will be on time, also is the
equipment working is a big factor if it not working then we don’t have the resources or the equipment to carry
out the job to meet deadlines.

E

4.4 Describe how to determine the sequence of work activities and how long each work activity will take.

R

FO
I then access a computer where I can see any drawing updates. Contact suppliers to check resources are
available and dates of delivery. Contact Sub contractor to make sure I will have enough labour on site if needed.

T

O
Check the Risk Assessment and Method statements to see if they are ok and up to date

4.5 Describe what zero and low carbon requirements are.
w
ns

It means no more carbon emissions being added to the atmosphere - from any additional source to the natural
carbon balance of the planet that existed before industrialization. The definition of zero carbon requires new
/a

dwellings to take into account: emissions from space heating, ventilation, hot water and fixed lighting, expected
energy use from appliance exports and imports from the development (and directly connected energy
m

installations) to and from centralised energy networks.

co

4.6 Explain how work activities and different ways of using resources can impact on zero and low carbon
a
ro

requirements, and make a positive contribution to the environment.

um

Ways of having an impact on zero and low carbon contributions would be by using local labour this will help
the environment on keeping emissions low because of employees traveling locally and not from all over the
country. Having materials made and sourced from local commercial business this will have a big impact on the
.g

environment using all resources locally. When using and selecting materials try to source recyclable materials
w

and equipment that can be reused. Turning of electrical appliance when not in use and turning lights and plant
w

of especially helps lower carbon emissions and has a positive impact on the environment
w

5.1 Evaluate project progress against the work programme to identify any changed circumstances.
by

Regular site meetings with all parties and nominated sub-contractors and suppliers to discuss any possible
ld

problems that may result in changes to the programme or construction phase. It is vital that any possible
So

changes are identified at a stage where the change can be sorted with no disruption to the rest of the schedule
of works and before they reach site level, as this may have a huge cost implication to the project and can affect
the financial running of the project depending on the what and thet size off the problem.

5.3 Explain how to identify possible alterations to the work programme to meet changed circumstances
relating to action lists, method statements, duration, schedules and/or occupation specific requirements.

Regular monitoring and controlling through direct supervision keeping accurate records of all work carried out
and maintaining communication between all involved in the programme will maintain and identify all forth
coming and existing problems seen beforehand. By using the appropriate systems and regular briefings and site
meetings this will establish the problem and will gives us sufficient time to amend the problem and meet the
schedule. Any extensions of time, delays, and changes will have implications to the financial running of the
project and will also have an impact on scheduled works c in contracts booked in and deliveries to site. This will
in fact slow the project and time scales may need to be increased or works jump up to 24hours to be deadlines,
this will then need risk assessments and method statements reviewing.
5.4 Explain how to assess contractual/work effects resulting from alterations to the work programme.

people would expect to receive:
by

– employers
ld

– customers
So

– contractors
– suppliers of products and services
– other people affected by the work/project.
Anyone who would need to relate information to staff, employers, customers, contractors, suppliers and the
other people that may be involved with the project will be contacted via phone and then confirmed via email the
level of detail will be high content to all involved. Any employees will have a job sheet or verbal instructions
given by supervision to them so they are able to proceed in line with the project structure that is in place.
Updating all relevant people in as much detail so there is no communication break downs and insuring the
project runs as and on time as much as possible.

Morning briefings -
Also Working with employees who have various levels of self-confidence and self-esteem and experience in this
line of work. They must encourage everyone to regularly ask questions. This kind of interaction from everyone
makes employees more comfortable with the concept of speaking up, and it also gives them confidence to
approach the correct employee without hesitation.

Job freeze audits is another way of encouraging employees to ask question on the job and not inform of others,

Explain the various methods of implementing systems that meet organisational and

Assessment

E
Risk is the possibility that harm (death, injury or illness) might occur when exposed to a
Criteria

hazard. To get started we need to know what in our workplace or which work activities may
6.2 present a risk. When we know where the risks are, we must do whatever we can to

ES
eliminate or minimise those risks. This is called the risk management process and it
involves a few steps: identifying the hazards, assessing and controlling the risks and
reviewing the control measures to make sure they are working as intended. Keeping

R
records of our risk management process can assist in demonstrating potential compliance

R
with work health and safety legislation. It can also help us to monitor the health and safety

FO
performance of our business. There are some specific record-keeping requirements for
some hazards, such as hazardous chemicals and asbestos. If such hazards are identified
at our workplace, we must keep the relevant records for the time specified. The detail and

extent of recording will depend on the size of our workplace and the potential for major

Criteria Under the riddor regulations, we are required to report to the relevant enforcing authority
6.4 and keep records of work-related deaths or accidents which cause certain specified serious
ld

injuries to workers, or which result in a worker being incapacitated for more than seven
So

consecutive days, certain near-miss accidents. Reports to the enforcing authority of all of
the above categories, except over-seven-day injuries, must be made immediately by the
quickest practicable means and followed up by a written notification within 10 days. Reports
of over-seven-day injuries must be sent to the enforcing authority within 15 days. Reporting
and recording of accidents and dangerous occurrences are a legal requirement. The report
tells the HSE and local authorities about serious incidents and cases of disease. This will
help them identify where and how risks arise and whether they need to be investigated and
in the same time provide advice on how to avoid work-related deaths, injuries, ill health and
accidental loss. Information on accidents, incidents and ill health can be used as an aid to
risk assessment, helping to develop solutions to potential risks. Records also help to
prevent injuries and ill health, and control costs from accidental loss.
