Dear Reader,

The Ethiopian Journal of Animal Production (EJAP) is the official scientific organ of the Ethiopian
Society of Animal Production (ESAP). The Society was officially established in 1991 and has a
membership of over 500 professionals (Ethiopians and non-Ethiopians) mainly drawn from academic
institutions, research institutes, extension and development workers, NGOs and the private sector.
The Society organizes annual conferences where relevant issues pertaining to the development of the
livestock sector and technical and scientific papers are presented and discussed. The Society publishes
the proceedings of these annual conferences. So far, a total of 12 edited conference proceedings from
19xx to 2005 have been published and have been useful references for various researchers and
development workers.

In the year 2000, the Society expressed a strong need for having a scientific journal and resolved to
establish an Editorial Board. An Editorial Board was elected by the general assembly and a 15 person
Editorial Advisory Board, composed of renowned professionals from both Ethiopia and outside
Ethiopia, were designated. The first issue of EJAP was published in the year 2001 and so far five
consecutive volumes (one issue per year) have been issued. The journal publishes research articles,
short communications, review articles, feature articles, technical notes and correspondences. All
articles published in EJAP are peer-reviewed. The contribution of scientific articles from its members
of the society has increased substantially and members have developed good confidence on the
scientific quality of published articles and the regularity of publication. Over the years, a lot of
members of the society have made remarkable effort in tirelessly reviewing and editing in-coming
manuscripts. We owe them a lot!

This year, just one year before the turn of the Ethiopian millennium, the Society marks yet another
success. The Editorial Board of EJAP is very pleased to congratulate the current Executive Committee
of ESAP for developing a new website. In this ESAP website all the previous publications of the
society (conference proceedings, journal articles and newsletters) are electronically available. This will
ensure easy access to ESAP’s publications to all interested individuals and organizations directly or
indirectly involved in livestock development in Ethiopia and beyond. All EJAP publication are now
available in the website and the Editorial Board of EJAP is also happy to inform you that electronic
submission of manuscripts for consideration of publication in the journal is now available. We hope
this will make submission of manuscripts to the Editorial Office and tracking of the status of
submitted manuscripts easy. This will also enhance the review process as invited reviewers can assess
the manuscripts and submit their reports via the website. We encourage you to submit manuscripts
for consideration by EJAP and detailed information for contributors and guidelines to authors are
available in the website.
