PCN4+ & Main Display is Released

Related Equipment:
• M18666A001 Pump Control Node (PCN)4+
• M18830A001 Main Display
• M18923A001 Display Bus Cable

Overview:
Beginning 08/25/2022 most new Encore® units leaving Greensboro will be equipped with new
variants of the PCN and Main Display. Some unit options may require the previous board set,
those units will be equipped with LON-based electronics. Replacement boards for units produced
prior to 08/25/2022 continue to utilize the previous LON-bus node set. The PCN4+ uses the same
Laptop Tool for software loading or downloading information as previous boards.
Troubleshooting and error codes for the new board set are the same. There are no additional
error codes, jump jacks or LEDs. These new boards are not backwards compatible with the
previous LON bus board set. These boards will be released outside of the US at a date TBD. Please
download and review the related documentation for detailed information.

Related Documentation:
• MDE-3804 Encore/Eclipse Start-Up and Service Manual Part I
• MDE-3921 Laptop Tool Software User Guide
• PT-1936 Encore 300, Encore 500/500 S, Encore 700 S, Eclipse® Recommended Spare Parts
• PT-1937 Encore & Eclipse Recommended Spare Parts

Further Information:
The new board set utilizes a Display (RS485) bus instead of the previous LON bus. Redundant
storage is held in two locations, the PCN4+ and A-side Main Display. Therefore single-sided units
will no longer require a Door Node on the unused B-side. The PCN4+ is the primary source of
redundant storage, while the Main Display is the secondary source.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
In the event of PCN4+ replacement the replacement must be performed correctly
using the instructions detailed in MDE-3804, otherwise calibration and configuration will
be lost. Reconfiguring and recalibrating units due to improper PCN replacement
will not be covered under warranty.

M18666A001 PCN 4+:

The PCN4+ is functionally the same as previous PCNs and must be paired with a M18830 Main
Display. For single sided units only the A side Main Display is required. Most LEDs and jumpers
are the same, as is programming, error codes and software loading procedures and information
retrieval via the Laptop Tool. As this PCN is not LON-based there are no neuron status LEDs.

M18830A001 Main Display:

The Main Display is functionally the same as previous 6-digit Door Nodes, though it must be
paired with a M18666 PCN4+. Most LEDs and jumpers are the same, as is programming. As this
Main Display is not LON-based there are no neuron status LEDs. There is no loadable software on
this node. The OPT jumper is not used on the Main Display for grades 5 or 6, PPU addressing is
performed solely on the PPUs. UHF Master/satellite combo units are not considered true single
sided units for this application only, the B side will still require a Main Display. PCN programming
will remain the same in Command Code 92.

JP4 (A1) Side Control Do not install Not used in North America

PPU Addressing:
If converting a unit, the PPUs may need to be re-addressed since the OPT jumper on the Main
Display is not used. Please refer to the table below. PPUs on models NL0-NL6, NF2 & NF4 will
likely need to be re-addressed.

Cabling & Connections:

The new board set uses Display bus cables such as the M18923AXXX. These cables feature
latching connectors and are ribbon style cables. Peripherals are connected the same as previous
platforms with the same connector designations.

Note: For further details see the related documents on GOLD

Software:

The PCN4+ is shipped with V05.0.14, which is the functional equivalent of the LON based PCN
version V04.1.30. Support for the Display bus was added, and LON based support was removed.
Later versions will be announced in the usual manner.

WARNING!
PCN4+ V05.X.XX is only compatible with the PCN4+. If a version other than V05.X.X
is loaded the unit will not function until a JP5 coldstart is performed, followed by
loading a compatible V05.X.XX or higher. If V05.X.XX is loaded onto a LON based PCN,
the unit will not function until a JP5 coldstart is performed, followed by loading a
compatible V04.X.XX or lower. Redundant storage may not be retained.

The Main Display will currently be shipped with version V05.0.03, which is the functional
equivalent of Door Node V03.0.05. Enhancements to support the PCN4+ and Main Display were
added, and LON based support was removed.

V05.0.14 is available through the standard pump software download process using the modifier
“PCN4PLUS”. Main Display V05.0.03 is not field loadable and is not available.

Please follow this process when replacing a PCN4+ with a PCN4+. This is applicable only to
Display bus equipped PCNs, it is not possible to use a LON based PCN in place of a PCN4+.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The below process must be followed in the exact sequence shown in the steps below.
If this process is not followed, there is a risk of losing calibration and all regulatory
data. Reconfiguring and recalibrating units due to improper PCN replacement
will not be covered under warranty.
