Title: Vocabulary Pictionary Showdown

Objective:
● Engage Japanese students in a dynamic and student-centered game to enhance their
English vocabulary through linguistic and visual modes.
● Foster teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking skills at different levels of Bloom's
Taxonomy.

Materials Needed:
● Whiteboard or flipchart
● Markers
● English vocabulary flashcards or word lists
● Timer
● Space for students to gather and draw

Game Plan:
❖ Formation of Teams (5 minutes):
➢ Divide the class into teams of 2-3 students each.
➢ Students will collaborate within their teams to brainstorm and strategize.
❖ Knowledge Round (15 minutes):
➢ Each team will receive a set of English vocabulary flashcards.
➢ In a timed setting, one student from each team must describe the word using only
linguistic cues (no gestures or drawings).
➢ The team members will guess the word based on the verbal description.
➢ Rotate the describing role within the team for each word.
➢ Students will apply their knowledge of vocabulary through verbal descriptions and
active listening.
❖ Understanding and Apply Rounds (20 minutes):
➢ Introduce a Pictionary round where students draw the vocabulary words shown
in the flashcard on the whiteboard.
➢ One student from each team will become the drawer, while the others guess the
word.
➢ Rotate the drawing role within the team for each word.
➢ After each round, teams will discuss the drawn images, ensuring understanding
and application of the words.

representation and interpretation.qq
➢ Teams will present their drawings, and other teams evaluate the clarity and
creativity of the visual representations.
➢ Students will engage in constructive feedback using the vocabulary words they
recently learned.
➢ Students will analyze visual representations and evaluate their effectiveness,
promoting critical thinking.
❖ Create Round (20 minutes):
➢ Each team will collaborate to create a short skit or story using a set of vocabulary
words.
➢ Each team will perform their creation for the class.
➢ Teams will get creative and incorporate the vocabulary they learned in context.
➢ Students will create original content, applying the vocabulary the learned in a
meaningful way.
