‘32 Aluminum conductor cables in sizes less than
16 mm? cause termination problems leading to heating
atthe terminals and enhance the possibility ofa fire, For
‘gonductr sizes less than or qual to 16 mim only copper
conductor cables should be used.
‘S83 Switch or lator controlling a water heater or
xeyser should not be located within 1 m from the
Tocation of # shower or bath tub, to avoid a person in
wet condition reaching the switch or isolator. It is
preferable to provide the contol switch ouside the bath
room near the entrance and provide an indieation at
the water heater. A socket or a connector block with
suitable protection against water spray should be
provided to connect the water heater. The above
considerations apply to switches for outdoor lights and
other appliances, with the objective of avoidance of
operation ofa switch when a person is wet.
5844 Sockets in kitchen, bathroom, tlle, garage, ete,
should not be provided within a height of 1 m from the
ground level. Similar ear as o be taken for installations
involving fountains, swimming pools te. Light fitings
fn such areas should be fed at low voltage, preferably
through an isolating transformer with a proper earth
leakage protection. Where possibility of a person in
contact with a wet surface has to operate or ouch an
clectrical switch or an appliance the cireuit should be
protected by a 100/30 mA RCCBIRCD, as applicable
5.85 Selecting and Installing Cables
S851 Cable insulation pes
Forthe purpose of this Code, cables above 1 mm shall
have stranded conductors, All cables when installed, shall,
be adequately protected against mechanical damage. This
canbe eartied outby ether having additional protection,
such a being enclosed in PVC conduit or metal pipes,
or placing the cables ina suitable location that requires
‘no additional protection, The cables for wiring circuits
in electrical installation shall have the appropriate wire
size matching the requirement of the loads and the
following table gives the recommendations for different
types of loads
For the mains cable
For installation wiring
For main earth or main equipotential wire
