Vent Blower Troubleshooting Tips ATA 21

Code 1: BB-2 through BB-1112; BT-5 through BT-27 & BT-29; BL-1 through BL-67;

Code 2: BB-1113 and after, BT-28, BT-30 and after; BL-68 and after; BN-5 and after.
Improvements to the King Air 200 vent blower system have been made via kits and
production up-grades. When effectively troubleshooting this system, you must know the
configuration of your airplane. CODE 1 airplanes left the factory with a vent blower
which became unavailable. RAC developed kit 101-5062-1 for these airplanes to make a
blower available for replacement and also made a couple of improvements to the system.
CODE 2 airplanes were wired to use speed controller and new motor at the factory and is
now the current installation. The final result of the kitted airplanes and the factory
installation is the same; however there are some differences between the two. Following
find the wiring diagrams for both systems.
To bench check the motor, apply 28 VDC to pin A and put pin C to ground. The motor
should run in HIGH speed.
For airplanes with kit 101-5062-1 installed, use ONLY 101-384177-9 Controller. Use of
the –11 controller will cause the motor to run in HIGH speed with LOW or HIGH speed
selected.

In addition, when ordering a replacement controller for these systems you must keep in
mind which system your airplane has. CODE 1 airplanes which have never been
modified must order kit 101-5062-1. CODE 1 airplanes which have been modified by kit
101-5062-1 you must order controller 101-384177-9 CODE 2 airplanes must order 101-

Technical Support has learned of an error in the B200 Wiring Diagram Manual, P/N 101-
590010-161F, that may result in the wrong part number Generator Control Unit (GCU)
being installed on B200 airplanes.
Part number 101-364270-5 GCUs are only approved for installation on airplanes up to
serial number BB-1334. BB-1335 and after MUST have 51538-001A GCUs installed.
The 51538-001A is an approved spares replacement for the 101-364270-5, but the 101-
364270-5 may NOT be installed on airplanes after BB-1335.

Aileron Installation ATA 27
All
Raytheon Aircraft Company Technical Support has received reports that during aileron
installation the MS27039-1-11 screws missed the nutplates on the aileron hinge points.
This condition can go unnoticed. Some operators have painted witness marks on the
aileron hinge brackets to give technicians a visual clue that installation is not correct.
The aileron on photo 1 is installed correctly. Photo 2 shows the witness mark painted on
the hinge bracket. The witness mark in this installation is red; a contrasting color must
be used. Photo 3 shows the aileron installed incorrectly. The witness marks makes it
obvious that something is not right.

Horizontal Stabilizer Actuator Installation ATA 27
100, B100
Raytheon Aircraft Company has received a Service Difficulty Alert involving a King Air
Model A100 and a Model 99A Airliner aircraft where an improperly installed horizontal
stabilizer actuator (115-380111) became detached from the airframe structure during
flight.
Inspection revealed that during the installation of the actuator, the two upper attachment
bolts, AN176-15A, had been incorrectly installed behind the actuator upper attach lugs,
trapping the actuator lugs between the bolt shanks and the rivet heads in the channel and
plate assemblies. Trapped in this manner, the weight of the actuator is suspended giving
the false impression that the actuator is correctly installed.
The purpose of this Communiqué is to alert all Operators and Maintenance Personnel of
the possibility of installing the actuators incorrectly. The King Air Model 100
Maintenance Manual will be revised to give specific instructions in the installation and
inspection of the horizontal stabilizer actuator and provide appropriate warnings or
cautions regarding the installation of the AN176-15A bolts. Refer to drawing.

Annunciator Dimming Transistor Installation ATA 31
B300
The King Air B300 aircraft uses external dimming transistors which vary the resistance
to ground for the purpose of dimming the warning, caution, advisory, landing gear
position and in-transit lights. The case of the transistor is the collector. If it does not
make good electrical contact with the transistor socket then the lights in the circuit may
not illuminate properly. There have been cases where the MS35338-41 split washer was
left out of the mounting screw. The head of the MS530-6R8 screw will then tighten
down on the insulating cover instead of the transistor collector. This could leave the
transistor collector insulated from the transistor socket. When the external transistor is
open circuited on the collector circuit, the load of the lights is then carried by the control
transistor on the A125 control card. If this transistor is exposed to the load of the light
bulb, it may open electrically. If after installing the lock washers, the lights do not
operate, the control transistor may be damaged.
On the A125 card, the Q16 transistor drives the “warning’ light external transistor out of
pin 13. The “caution” lights external dimming transistor is driven by the Q14 out of pin
45. The “advisory” light external dimming transistor is driven by the Q15 transistor out
of pin 46. The part number of Q14, Q15, and Q16 is JAN2N2222A. Following find a
drawing showing the installation and a photo showing the assembly separated.

Honeywell International Inc. has issued a Service Bulletin announcing issues with the
First Stage Turbine Disk, part numbers 3101520-1 or 3107079-1. It has been discovered
that the forging alloy melting process may have resulted in localized areas that are low in
titanium and/or aluminum. These low alloy areas, if present, may lead to a crack in
service and cause and uncontained turbine disk separation and/or engine shutdown.
Uncontained turbine disk separation can result in the ejection of the metal fragments. The
Service Bulletin gives inspection instructions and disk serial effectivity. Please consult
the Service Bulletin for details. The Service Bulletin number is TPE331-A72-2102 and
you can request a copy from Honeywell’s Publications Department by fax at 602-365-
5577.
