Key

1 Let’s sing!

Preparation: A picture of a turkey

15 mins.

Pre-stage: This stage is to introduce the theme of the lesson. Show the students a picture
of a turkey and ask them what it is. If they don’t know, tell them. Practise the word with the
students. Use your arms to make wings and get the students to follow. Ask them what sound
a turkey makes (gobble) and practise that together. Ask the students to stand up. Together,
walk around in the circle, flapping your wings and gobbling.

Listening: Tell the students they are going to do a turkey dance. They have to watch you
or the video and follow the actions. Tell the students there are five body parts. One by one
show them the action and ask them to repeat it. They don’t need to know the names, just the
actions. You should also introduce shake and turn around. Play the song and practise the
actions.

Wing: arm

Drumstick: leg

Stuffing: stomach

Wattle: under the chin

Tail feathers: tail using your arm.

2 Let’s play!

10 mins.

This stage is for students to play a fun spot the difference game in pairs. Show the students
the two images and tell them there are five differences. Count 1-5 to check they understand.

Give each pair a worksheet. Tell them the first pair to spot all the differences are the winners.
Then ask the students to each colour in one of the turkeys. They can choose the colours.

5 differences – mark under the eye, different shapes on the tail, lines on his chest, lines on
the wings x2

3 Let’s draw!

10-15 mins.

This stage is for students to think about what they are thankful for. Start by telling the students
the holiday is a time to say thank you. Practise the phrase ‘thank you’ with the students. Then
ask them what things they are thankful for.

Use the flashcards to give the students some ideas. Hold the cards up one at a time and say
the word. (Family, friends, pets, food, school, toys)

Then show them the worksheet. First, they trace around the letters and then they draw what
they are thankful for.

4 Let’s practise!

5 mins.

This stage is for students to practise following the lines to develop their motor skills. Tell the
students that Tina the turkey is looking for her food. Ask the students what they think turkeys
eat. Then you can tell them corn. Demonstrate the first line so the students know what to do.
Give each student a worksheet. They should choose a different colour for each line.

5 Let’s move!

5-10 mins.

This stage is for students to play a fun game which introduces/reviews basic adjectives in the
context of different turkeys. Ask all the students to stand up and come to the front of the
room.

Tell them they are going to all be turkeys but different types of turkeys. Start with a big turkey.
Show them how to be a big turkey. Tell them when they hear the music, they all have to move
like big turkeys. Stop the music and then introduce another adjective, show them, and play
the music. Continue the process for the other adjectives.

Possible adjectives: big, small, happy, scared, sad, fast, slow

6 Let’s create!

Preparation: scissors, coloured pencils or paint.

10 mins.

This stage is for students to have fun and create their own turkey. First, show them the picture
of what the turkey should look like. Then tell them they need to cut out the pieces (it would
be good to have one cut up already)

Then show them how to stick it down. Give each student a worksheet and ask them to start
making their turkey. Monitor carefully. When they are finished, they decorate it how they like.

7 Let’s sing!

5 mins.

This stage is an optional activity to close the lesson. Tell the students they are going to do the
Turkey Hokey Pokey again. Ask them to stand back in a circle and play the song.
