9.3 Introduction
An operational amplifier is a very high gain amplifier having very high input impedance,
and low output impedance. Figure 9.1 shows a basic op-amp.

9.3.1 Non-Inverting Amplifier

Figure 9.2 shows op-amp circuit that operates as a non-inverting op-amp with its voltage
gain is given as in equation 9.1.

9.4 Experiment – Non-inverting Amplifier

1. Assemble the circuit shown in Figure 9.4. Ensure all connections are correct as any
misconnection will cause damage to the op-amp (IC 741).

2. Switch on the waveform generator and set its operating frequency fo=1 kHz and
voltage amplitude Vi = 0.4 Vpp.
3. Switch on the power supply.
4. Using an oscilloscope, measure Vi and Vo voltages, and calculate its voltage gain.
Take the pictures of their waveforms.
5. Calculate its voltage gain using the resistor values, i.e. Rf and R1.
6. Discuss your observation by comparing the voltage gain obtained from Step 4 and
Step 5.
