ACTIVITY : 6

DATE : DAY :

NATURE OF ACTIVITY : INDIVIDUAL

TIME : 40 MINUTES

OBJECTIVE : To verify that the values of trigonometric ratios of an angle do not vary

with the lengths of the sides of the triangle.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To understand Trigonometric ratios.

PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE :

Knowledge of parallel lines and ratios

MATERIALS REQUIRED –

 Geoboard  Rubber bands  Geoboard pins  Geometry box

PROCEDURE – Step 1: Fix 5 geoboard pins on the geoboard at suitable points A, B, C, D

and E and join them with 2 rubber bands of different colors to represent two similar

right triangles.

Step 1 Measure length of AB, BC, AD, DE, AC and AE using a ruler.

Step 2 Find BC/AC and DE/AE

Step 3 Repeat the activity by making other pairs of similar right Triangles and

complete the following table

S.no. BC AC BC/AC DE AE DE/AE

1 3 6 1/2 5 10 1/2
OBSERVATION : Students observe that :

Sinθ =(BC/AC) = (DE/AE) = (1/2)

RESULT : Hence, that the values of trigonometric ratios of an angle do not vary with

the lengths of the sides of the triangle is verified
