Product Description
Armix AFA 160(E) is a high performance alkali free ready to use set accelerator for sprayed concrete applications. it is
commonly used for the wet mix sprayed concrete processes in the tunneling and mining industry. Armix AFA 160(E) is a liquid
admixture, by adjusting the dosage, setting times and rebound can be reduced providing a safe and efficient work
environment. Armix AFA 160(E) meets the requirements of EN 934-5 admixture for sprayed concrete, ASTM C1141 standard
specification for shotcrete admixture and EFNARC
Uses
 Rock support in tunnels and mines
 Slope stabilization
 Used in poor ground conditions
 Backfilling grouts for TBM tunnel lining
 Accelerated cementitious injection grout
Application Methodology
 Before spraying of concrete, poor and loose rock
should be removed from the surface.
 Water leakages should be drained out ,either by
drainage channels or should be blocked by grouting
 Pre-wetting should be carried out, big cavities
should be carefully built up before the main
applications
 Spraying should start from the bottom and continue
upwards. this is to avoid spraying in rebound losses

 The nozzle direction should be maintained 90 to the
surface
It is recommended to use only fresh cement as the age
of the cement can have a negative influence on the
setting characteristics of the mix. Armix AFA 160(E) can
be sensitive to the type of cement. With some cements
the setting characteristics can be too slow. it is strongly
recommended to do preliminary tests to check setting
and 24 h strength.

Dispersing and mixing
Armix AFA 160(E) is dosed and added on site by a liquid
dispensing system. optimum dispersion in the shotcrete
is governed by nozzle configuration and shotcreteing
techniques, for optimum performance The w/c ratio
should be designed below 0.45.this ensures rapid setting
and lower set accelerator dosage. When targeting
extremely high early strength ,the w/c ratio 0.40 or lower.
the lower w/c ratios provide faster setting high early
strength ,better durability ,lower accelerator dosage and
thick layer can be applied overhead.
MYK arment always recommend that trial should be
carried out to confirm suitability of the product. please
note regional climatic condition may cause a variation in
the performance of product
The MYK Armix series of superplasticisers and hydration
controlling system are fully compatible with Armix AFA
and to optimize the sprayed concrete performance on
site. Do not mix or interchange ARMIX AFA160E with
any type of accelerator produced by another
manufacturer, as this can cause unexpected behavior.

Technical Data Consumption/Dosage

The most effective dosage of Armix AFA 160(E) must be

depends on cement type, age, reactivity of cement ,cement
[Na2O] EQV. (%bw) <1.0% content in mix, and type of sub grade.

ArmixAFA 160(E) is supplied in 250 kg HDPE drum

Storage and Shelf Life

ArmixAFA 160(E) must be stored in its original container

as supplied at minimum +5°C and maximum +35°C. kept
dry and out of direct sunlight If these conditions are
maintained and the product packaging is unopened, then a
shelf life of six months can be expected. However it is
recommended that the suspension shall be mechanically
agitated after long storage and before use.

(Optimum temperature for storage and performance is

+20°C).

If required for storing of ArmixAFA 160(E) should be stored

in closed containers, made of plastic, glass fiber ArmixAFA
160(E) must not be stored in mild (carbon) steel containers
as the pH can cause corrosion that might affect the
performance of the product. It is recommended to consult
our local MYK Arment representative prior to the use of
any product that has been frozen. Performance testing
should always be carried out before use

Health & Safety Product Categories Available

Armix AFA 160(E) does not fall into the hazard
classifications of current regulations. However, it should not
be swallowed or allowed to come into contact with skin or
eyes. Suitable protective gloves and goggles should be
worn. Splashes on the skin should be removed with water.
In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with plenty of
water and seek medical advice. If swallowed, seek medical
attention immediately.

Fire
Armix AFA 160(E) is water based and non-flammable
