Biorfe Bokashi Bran

Bokashi Composting
Bokashi composting is an anaerobic process that uses Bokashi Brans to ferment your food waste in
a sealed container. Unlike traditional composting, bokashi composting can handle all kinds of food
waste, including meat, dairy, and cooked food. Bokashi composting also produces a nutrient-rich
liquid fertilizer called bokashi tea.

To use Bokashi Brans for composting, you will need:

 A bokashi bucket or any airtight container with a lid and a spigot
 Bokashi Brans
 Food waste
 A garden fork or trowel
 A garden hose or watering can
 A compost bin or pile or a place to bury your pre-compost

Follow these steps to compost with Bokashi Brans:

1. Cut your food waste into small pieces and place them in the bokashi bucket. Sprinkle a
handful of Bokashi Brans over each layer of food waste. Press down the food waste to remove
air pockets and seal the lid tightly.
2. Repeat this process until the bucket is full. Drain the bokashi tea from the spigot every few
days and use it as a fertilizer for your plants. Dilute the tea with water at a ratio of 1:100
before applying it to your plants.
3. Once the bucket is full, let it sit for two weeks to complete the fermentation process. Do not
open the lid or add more food waste during this time. You may notice a sweet or sour smell
and white mold on the surface of the food waste. This is normal and indicates that the bokashi
microbes are working.
4. After two weeks, your food waste is ready to be turned into compost. You can either bury it in
the ground, add it to your compost bin or pile, or use it as a mulch for your plants. Burying or
mixing the pre-compost with soil will activate the aerobic decomposition process and turn it
into rich compost in about four weeks. Using it as a mulch will also provide nutrients and
moisture to your plants.

Soil Amendment
Bokashi Brans can also be used as a soil amendment to improve the health and fertility of your soil.
Bokashi Brans are rich in beneficial microbes that can break down organic matter, mineralize
nutrients, suppress pathogens, and enhance the soil food web.

To use Bokashi Brans as a soil amendment, you will need:

 Bokashi Brans
 A garden fork or trowel
 A watering can or hose

Follow these steps to amend your soil with Bokashi Brans:

1. Choose an area of your garden or lawn that you want to improve. Loosen the top layer of
the soil with a garden fork or trowel.
2. Sprinkle about a third of a cup of Bokashi Brans per square foot of soil. Mix the brans
with the soil lightly and water well.
3. Repeat this process every two weeks to maintain the microbial activity and boost the soil
quality. You may notice white mold on the surface of the soil, which is a sign of the
bokashi microbes working.

Odor Control

Bokashi Brans can also be used to control odors from pets, garbage, and other sources. Bokashi
Brans contain lactic acid bacteria that can neutralize bad smells and create a pleasant environment.

To use Bokashi Brans for odor control, you will need:

 Bokashi Brans
 A spray bottle
 Water

Follow these steps to control odors with Bokashi Brans:

1. Fill a spray bottle with water and add a teaspoon of Bokashi Brans. Shake well to dissolve
the brans.
2. Spray the solution on the source of the odor, such as pet bedding, garbage cans, carpets,
or shoes. Let it dry naturally.
3. Repeat this process as needed to eliminate the odor and freshen the air.

Septic and Pipe Sanitizing

Bokashi Brans can also be used to sanitize your septic and pipe systems. Bokashi Brans can prevent
clogs, reduce sludge, and eliminate odors in drains, toilets, and septic tanks. Bokashi Brans can also
improve the performance and longevity of your septic and pipe systems.

To use Bokashi Brans for septic and pipe sanitizing, you will need:

 Bokashi Brans
 Water
 A bucket or a jug
