Vessels that were not externally coated at the fabrication shop are
provided with a hard temporary preservative appropriate for the metallurgy 32-SAMSS-004

of the vessel and can be easily removed at site prior to surface Par. 19.3.1 (a)
preparation & application of Saudi Aramco coating & paint system.

Stainless Steel vessels, which were shipped via ocean freight, are

steel & suitable outdoor exposure.

Vessels that are partially shop fabricated and/or likely to suffer from
distortion have the following protection:
a) Adequate* bracing 32-SAMSS-004

b) All open ends are covered to prevent ingress of dirt and other Par. 19.1.4
foreign matters.

The internal of vessel is completely and thoroughly dried and cleaned 32-SAMSS-004

from all loose scales, weld slag, dirt and debris. Par. 19.1.2

The interior surfaces of vessels, including internals, shall be protected


from corrosion by use of a nontoxic liquid or vapor phase corrosion

A6 inhibitor (VpCI) that is compatible with the metallurgy of all components in
Par. 19.2.2
the equipment being protected and is environmentally friendly for disposal
at sea.(Nitrites shall not be used)

Vessels internally protected by corrosion inhibitor are sealed vapor tight 32-SAMSS-004

using metallic covers. Par. 19.2.2.6

For vessels made completely of stainless steels and vessels internally


cladded or weld-overlaid with these materials, in addition to vapor phase
corrosion inhibitors applied per par.19.2.2, nitrogen blanketing shall be 32-SAMSS-004

used during shipment or periods of storage at the construction site. Par. 19.2.3
Note: The vessel shall be clearly marked with a warning: "Warning:
asphyxiation hazard--preserved with nitrogen"

Telltale holes in reinforcing pads shall be protected with wooden plugs or 32-SAMSS-004

packed with rust preventative grease. Par. 19.3.2

Flanged connections and all other machined surfaces shall be protected


by a coating suitable for the metallurgy of the vessel and can be easily 32-SAMSS-004

removed in the field. Connections shall be fitted with steel or wood cover, Par. 19.3.3
3mm thick and neoprene gaskets

Covers shall be securely attached by a minimum of four bolts equally

A11 spaced. For ocean shipment, flanged connections shall also be covered

with heavy-duty plastic bags securely taped to the nozzles.

Flanges with permanent blind flanges or covers shall be secured with the 32-SAMSS-004

Prepare the surface and apply primer and final coatings as per the Saudi 32-SAMSS-004
