CLUTCHES
Clutch can be defined as a mechanical device which, when
engaged, Transmits Power from one shaft to the other Coaxial
shaft.
FUNCTIONS OF CLUTCHES
It engaging and disengaging the Gear Box with the Engine.
Transmits the engine power to road wheels smoothly.
Shouldn’t be noisy.

Disadvantages:
1 The capacity of torque transmission is less.
2 The size of this clutch is big even for less torque transmission.
3 It is dry clutch so it is required to prevent it from moisture.
4 Chance of tear an wear is high in single plate clutches.

Multi-Plate dry Clutch When the clutch is operated dry it is called dry clutch. This clutch has plates
with friction material the same as in single plate clutch.

Disadvantages:
1. Multi-plate clutches are too expensive.
2. Multi-plate clutches are heavy.
Applications:
The multi-plate clutches are used in racing cars, and motorcycles.
The multi-plate clutch is used in heavy commercial vehicles to transmit high torque.
