PROJECT II TRIMESTER 2024


1. General Information:
Subject: Science
Level: 1st
Teacher: Karina Ballestero Alvarado
Project’s title Science Fair
Topic to Evaluate: Experiments
Start Date: May 6th
Due Date: August 1st

2. General Objective:
Use knowledge about Science to develop a Science Fair project.

3. Abilities to Develop:
Problem solving
Communication
Decision making
Productivity

4. Project Description:
Students will choose a topic of interest and based on that topic, they will prepare an experiment and
an oral presentation to show it to the rest of the class.

Project launch stage: May 6th to 17th

Inquiry stage: May 7th to 31st


Students choose a topic and think of an investigation question they want to answer with this project.
The question cannot be a yes or no question, it must be open to be answered in the conclusion. It
also serves as a guide of what they want to learn during the development of the project.
Students write a hypothesis, that is a possible answer for the investigation question they wrote
during the previous stage.
Development stage: June 3rd to June 14th
Students prepare a tri-fold presentation board to support the oral presentation they will have on the
next stage. They must bring any image or decoration they want to include.

Presentation stage: June 17th-June 28th


Students present the final product and tell what they learned with it. Some students are selected to
participate in the school’s Science Fair.

6. Rubrics / Assessment Criteria in Detail:

STAGE 1
Inquiry stage 5%

The topic is clearly stated. It’s related to a scientific topic. 1 point

The research question can be answered through experimentation. 1 point

The hypothesis is testable through experimentation or observation. 1 point

The student presents the requested information on the established 1 point


date.

Clear and concise writing. 1 point.

Total percentage: 5 points 5%

STAGE 2
**** Esta etapa se realiza en casa: Se prepara el cartel, que incluya lo
solicitado a continuación. El cartel se trae a la escuela junto con los materiales
para hacer el experimento o el proyecto. En caso de elegir hacer proyecto,
favor traer material visual llamativo para presentar la exposición. ****

Development stage 10%


Display board includes:
Proper use of grammar, punctuation, and capitalization on all 3 point
elements on the display board.

The information is clear, well-organized, and easy to understand. 1 point

The content is presented in a logical sequence. 1 point

The topic of the project. 1 point

The research question 1 point

The materials and procedures of the experiment or the 1 point


investigation.

The visual aids are interesting and they support the content of the 1 point
project.
A conclusion: What did you learn from your experiment? 1 point
Have you proved or disproved your hypothesis?

1 point

STAGE 3

cartel y su exposición preparada, junto con los materiales necesarios para la
presentación. ****

Presentation stage 10% -Oral presentation

The student introduces himself and gives the title of the project. 1

The student says the materials, procedures and the conclusion. (no 3
