TURN-TAKING
• process of alternating between speakers in a conversation
• Thornbury (2005) suggests two rules:
1. Long silences are to be avoided.
2. Listen when other speakers are speaking.

Turn-Taking Strategies
• Signaling that you are listening
• Signaling that you want to speak and interrupt
• Recognizing when to take a turn
• Holding the floor during your turn
• Recognizing when others want to speak
• Yielding a turn
