IP ADDRESS
REPORT

2024
INTRODUCTION Definition of IP address: An IP address is
a unique numerical identifier assigned to
each device that is connected to the
internet. It enables devices to
communicate with each other over a
network.

IP address types: There are two types of IP addresses - IPv4

and IPv6. IPv4 is a 32-bit address that uses four sets of
numbers between 0 and 255, separated by periods. IPv6 is a
128-bit address that uses a combination of letters and
numbers.

Static vs. Dynamic IP addresses: Static IP addresses are fixed

and do not change, while dynamic IP addresses are assigned
by the internet service provider (ISP) and may change
periodically.

02
IMPORTANCE
Importance of IP addresses: IP
addresses are important for identifying
and communicating with devices on
the internet. They are used for routing
internet traffic and ensuring that data
is sent to the correct destination.
An Internet Protocol (IP) address is the unique identifying number assigned to every device
connected to the internet. An IP address definition is a numeric label assigned to devices
that use the internet to communicate.

IP addresses have two distinct versions or standards. The Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4)
address is the older of the two, which has space for up to 4 billion IP addresses and is
assigned to all computers. The more recent Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) has space for
trillions of IP addresses, which accounts for the new breed of devices in addition to
computers. There are also several types of IP addresses, including public, private.

Every device with an internet connection has an IP address, whether it's a computer, laptop,
IoT device, or even toys. The IP addresses allow for the efficient transfer of data between two
connected devices, allowing machines on different networks to talk to each other.

IP address management:

01 IP addresses are managed by various organizations and service

providers. The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) is
responsible for allocating IP addresses to Regional Internet Registries
(RIRs), which in turn allocate them to ISPs and organizations.

IP address security:

02 IP addresses can be vulnerable to attacks and can be used to track

users' online activity. It is important to use secure protocols such as
HTTPS and to protect your network with firewalls and other security
measures.

03
IP address location
: IP addresses can be used to determine the approximate physical
location of a device. This information can be used for geolocation
services and targeted advertising.
