INTRODUCTION IN

EXERCISE
PHYSIOLOGY
PresentedBy : IBALLA,CHARLESKENNETH A.
How do you define Exercise?
What is Physical Activity?
Body movement produced by muscle action that increases energy
expenditure.
eg: activities of daily living such as shopping, gardening, house
keeping, child rearing, work-related activities, etc

What is Exercise?
Planned, structured, repetitive, and purposeful physical activity
e.g.: training for or performing athletics, sports, or recreational
activities such as jogging, roller-blading, ice skating, swimming, etc.
What is physical FITNESS
how well one performs physical activity.

-Muscular strength -Body composition

-Cardiorespiratory endurance
-Muscular endurance
Power
-Flexibility
-Agility
What is Exercise Physiology?
Definition: the study of how the body (cell, tissue, organ,
system) responds in function and structure to (1) acute
exercise stress, and (2) chronic physical activity.
As an academic discipline:
1. Body of knowledge built on facts and theories derived from
research.
2. Formal course of study in institutions of higher learning
3. Professional preparation of practitioners, future
investigators, and leaders in the field.

Phisiology
Physis - Nature

Logia - Study Nature
Physiology
Physiology- Deals with a normal functions of
living things as well as the chemical and physical
mechanism behind these functions. Everything
we do relies on a complex internal processes.
Molecular Level or Whole organisms level.
Exercise
Exercise- It is a form of physical exertion
that can be carefully quantified.
Exercise Physiology
Exercise Physiology- Study of how the body
responds to exercise and the changes brought
to exercise training. Study of how the body
responds in function and structure to acute
exercise stress and chronic physical activity.
CONTEMPORARY
DEVELOPMENT
Presented By : Relyn Ayher G. Ordame
What is Contemporary Development?

Contemporary development in the origin of exercise

physiology are numerous and have significantly advance
our understanding of the impact of physical activity on the
human body .
1.Advance in Technology
Technology advancement revolutionized the field of
exercise physiology, allowing for more accurate and
detailed measurements of physiological response to
exercise.
2. Genetic Research

The study of genetics has become increasingly relevant

to exercise physiology, as researcher seek to understand
how genetic factors influence individual response to
exercise and their overall athletic performance.
3. Understanding of
Molecular Mechanism

Contemporary research has deepened our understanding

of the molecular mechanism underlying the body's
response to exercise. This includes the study of signaling
pathways, gene expression, and the role of various
molecules such as cytokines, hormones, and growth
factors in mediating the effects of exercise on the body
