Why?

Pradosh Vrat, also known as Pradosham in South India, is observed to seek Lord Shiva's blessings.

When?

In the lunar month, Pradosh Vrat is observed on both Trayodashi Tithis, namely Shukla Paksha
Trayodashi and Krishna Paksha Trayodashi. Some differentiate between Shukla and Krishna Paksha
Pradosham.

When Trayodashi Tithi falls during Pradosh Kaal, which begins after sunset, the day is fixed for
Pradosham Vrat. When Trayodashi Tithi and Pradosh time overlap after sunset, it is auspicious for
Shiva Puja.

When Pradosham day falls on

Monday it is called Soma Pradosham

Tuesday it is called Bhauma Pradosham

Wednesday it is called Budha Pradosham

Thursday it is called Guru Pradosham

Friday it is called Shukra Pradosham

Saturday it is called as Shani Pradosham

Sunday it is called Ravi Pradosham

devotees who observe fast on each Pradosh, Lord Shiva bless them with happiness, prosperity and
with blissful life.

Location based Pradosham Days

It is critical to understand that the fasting day for Pradosham may differ between two cities, even if
they are in the same Indian state. Fasting for Pradosham is based on the time of sunset and is
observed when Trayodashi Tithi prevails after sunset. As a result, Pradosham fasting may be
observed on Dwadashi Tithi, one day before Trayodashi Tithi. Because sunset times vary by city, it is
important to the local Hindu calendar.
