ABSTRACT

This project presents the development and implementation of an Arduino-based

alcohol sensing engine lock system, aimed at enhancing vehicle safety by preventing
intoxicated individuals from operating vehicles. The alarming rate of alcohol-related
accidents necessitates innovative solutions to mitigate risks. This system employs a gas
sensor to detect alcohol levels in a driver's breath and integrates with the vehicle's ignition
system to restrict engine operation if alcohol is detected beyond a predefined threshold.

The increasing number of road accidents due to drunk driving has necessitated the
development of effective preventive measures. This project presents an Arduino-based
alcohol sensing engine lock system designed to enhance vehicle safety by preventing
intoxicated individuals from operating a vehicle. The system integrates an alcohol sensor
(MQ-3), an Arduino microcontroller, and an engine locking mechanism to detect alcohol
levels in the driver's breath and control the vehicle's ignition system accordingly.

Upon detection of alcohol levels above a predefined threshold, the MQ-3 sensor
sends a signal to the Arduino, which processes the data and triggers the engine lock to
prevent the vehicle from starting. The system is designed to be user-friendly, cost-
effective, and easily integrable with existing vehicle ignition systems. Additionally, the
project includes a display unit that provides real-time feedback to the driver about the
alcohol concentration detected.
