Important

​Conjunctions join clauses together and make sentences.

Reminder

A clause is usually a short subject-verb or subject-verb-object structure.

E.g. The train leaves soon.

E.g. Hurry up!

=> Use so to join the clauses together: "The train leaves soon so hurry up!"

Conjunctions have different jobs.

Give a reason 1) because


Give a consequence / result 2) so
Give the order of events 3) after, 4) before, 5) until
Give a contrast 6) but
Give extra information 7) and

Example

1) I like parties because they're a good opportunity to meet new people.

2) Anyway, it’s cold here, so nobody wants to wait for a bus at 7 in the morning!

3) After I go to a party, I wake up quite late.

4) Sometimes, I buy a new dress before I go to a party.
