The flora of the islands include Banana, Vazha,(Musaparadisiaca), Colocassia, Chambu (Colocassia
antiquarum) Drumstic moringakkai (Moringa Oleifera) , Bread Fruit, Chakka (Artocarpus incisa) wild
almond (Terminalia Catappa) which are grown extensively.

PITTI ISLAND
Pitti Island, also known as Pakshipitti, is an uninhabited coral islet in the Union
Territory of Lakshadweep, India. It is a prominent nesting place for pelagic birds
such as the greater crested tern, the sooty tern, and the brown noddy

The island has been declared a bird sanctuary and is one of the most
famous bird watching sites in India. Nearly 75 seabird species can be found
here.
 Minicoy Island
one of the 36 small islets of Lakshadweep group of Islands, Minicoy, also known
as Maliku in the local language is one of the best-kept secrets of India. It is
located amidst the vast expanse of Arabian Sea, just 398 km or 215 nautical
miles from the shores of Cochin.

Agatti Islands
Agatti Islands is considered another jewel from the Lakshadweep group of islands
in India. The island is situated on one of the coral isles of Lakshadweep islands
and is few of the islands from the Lakshadweep group that is inhabited by people.
One may explore the island on foot or rent a two-wheeler to commute. Every
corner of the island is rich with natural vegetation and beautiful geographical
formations.
 How to Reach Lakshadweep
Lakshadweep can be reached via water and air only. It lies about 400 Km away from the Western coast of India in the Arabian
Sea. There are seven-passenger ships in total, which operate between Lakshadweep and Cochin. It has an airport in Aggati,
which is connected to Kochi Airport only. Lakshadweep are a group of islands and to travel from one to another you can either
use the ferry system or hire a helicopter.

 Best Time To Visit Lakshadweep
September to February is the best time to visit Lakshadweep Islands as the climatic conditions
remain pleasant (between 20-30-degree Celcius). March to May are also good months but the
weather will be hotter by 2-3-degree Celcius. The monsoon months of June to August
experience high temperatures and heavy rainfall followed by high humidity, hence a lot of
activities are shut down.

GOVERNMENT & POLITICS
Politics & government of Lakshadweep is dependent on the various bodies
functioning in accordance to the government of the union territory.
Lakshadweep is the smallest union territory of India. It is an archipelago
consisting of thirty six islands. But people have settled in only ten of them .
Lakshdweep elects only one member to the Lok Sabha. Lakshadweep (ST)
is the only one Parliamentary constituency in Lakshadweep and is
governed by an administrator appointed by the President of India. The
current administrator is H. Rajesh Prasad. He has power as Inspector
General of Lakshadweep Police receiving command and control of the
Lakshadweep Police
 POLITICS
Ten sub-divisions have been made of the territory. In the Minicoy and Agatti
islands the sub division is under a deputy collector while in the rest of the 8
islands, all development activities are coordinated by the sub divisional
officers.

The Collector who is also the District Magistrate and the Development
Commissioner supervises all matters which come under the district
administration. The District Magistrate is supported by 1 additional District
Magistrate and 10 executive Magistrates regarding enforcement of law and
order.

Literacy rate in Lakshadweep has seen upward
trend and is 91.85 percent as per latest
population census. Of that, male literacy
stands at 95.56 percent while female literacy
is at 87.95 percent.

in 2023.
