For righteous and permissible work the more we make good intentions, the

Intentions of listening to Bayan

Satan’s enmity with humans Translated into English by Majlis-e-Tarajim (Dawat-e-Islami)
Dear Islamic brothers! No doubt, every person dislikes his enemy and tries
his best to stay away from his mischief. The stronger the enemy, the greater
the precaution to stay protected from him and greater are the protective
measures. Remember! The biggest and most dangerous enemy of humans is
Satan. From the noble Awliya to ordinary people, Satan has enmity
towards everyone and use numerous ploys and different tricks to mislead
them. Allah has mentioned various Ayahs in the Holy Quran of how Satan
can be identified. In today’s Bayan, we will listen to Ayahs, blessed Ahadees,
stories of pious predecessors and methods of making Satan’s strikes
unsuccessful with regards to ‘Satan’s enmity with humans’. If only we could
gain the blessings of listening to the complete bayan with good intentions
and full concentration. First of all, let’s listen to one story of Satan’s enmity
with humans.

We also came to know that no matter how highly ranked and pious a person
is, whether he is a peer [spiritual guide] and a faqir or a scholar and a wali,
any worship that has been made obligatory by Allah can never be
excused. Just think! Who has the highest status from all creation? No doubt,
the answer is the Holy Prophet ٖ . The Holy Prophet ٖ was
such a Salah offerer that no one can compare to. No one can even think of
worshipping like him. Tahajjud was also obligatory [Fard] upon him. Although
he is the owner of Shari’ah but he also fulfilled the commandments of Allah
Almighty.

Translation: Indeed Shaytan is an open enemy of human beings.
[Kanz-ul-Iman (translation of Quran)](Part. 15, Surah Bani Israel, Ayah 53)
Dear Islamic brothers! We learn that Satan is the open enemy of mankind. To
make this enmity apparent, Satan uses many tactics. Sometimes, he makes
people commit ostentation to destroy their good deeds. Sometimes, he
instils evil whispers to stop them from carrying out good deeds. Sometimes,
he causes quarrels and enmity between Muslims to make them backbite and
slander one another. Sometimes, he makes people lie to try and destroy their
hereafter. Sometimes, he makes people jealous of one another to try and
send them into the hellfire. Sometimes, he makes people a target of his
enmity by involving them in arrogance. Sometimes, he entraps people into
4

wanting others to praise them so that their good deeds are wasted.
Sometimes, he fulfils his aim by creating hidden enmity in the hearts of
Muslims. Sometimes, he disgraces people in this life and the hereafter by
getting them to be disobedient to their parents. Sometimes, he deprives
people from getting the unaccountable reward of patience by making them
impatient and making them shout and scream during illness. Sometimes, he
prevents people from offering Salah, performing obligatory acts and learning
obligatory and necessary knowledge of Deen. Sometimes, he stops people
from reciting the Holy Quran. Sometimes, he makes people lazy in
performing good deeds. All in all, Satan tries to entrap people in numerous
ways to make his enmity apparent. We must be wary of his strikes.

people about it so that he can gain money from people or people praise him or
they consider him pious or that people treat him with respect.
(Az-Zawajir, vol. 1, pp. 86)
10 examples of ostentation
1. To learn the art of reciting the Holy Quran so that people will call him
‘Qaari Sahib’.
2. To say or write words that show humility for oneself such as faqeer,
sinful, worthless, etc. so that people will consider him to be a humble
person and praise his humility.
3. To meet people in a good manner so that people will consider him to be
of good character.
4. To wipe tears from eyes whilst weeping during Du’a, etc. in the presence
of others so that people will get the impression that he is wiping his
tears quickly to avoid ostentation.
5. To say such sentences to impress others: I am very fearful of sins, I am in
constant fear of losing my faith, what will happen to me in the dark grave,
how will I give accountability on the day of judgement, etc.
6. To say sentences like ‘I avoid meeting rich and famous people’ to give
the impression that he has no interest in this world and to make others
acknowledge his piety.
7. To saying comforting sentences upon hearing about the troubles of
someone so that people consider him a sympathetic person.
6

8. To hold a Tasbih (string of beads) in the hand in such a way that makes
people see it or recite Durood Shareef and other Wazaaif whilst moving
the lips or reading it loud enough for others to hear it, so that people
will consider him to be a pious person.
9. To act upon Sunnah properly whilst eating, drinking, standing, sitting,
etc. in front of people. Whereas, when he is alone, he does not act upon
the Sunnah.
10. To eat less whilst in a gathering or in the presence of others so that
people will consider him a steadfast follower of Sunnah and a person
who eats less. (Nayki ki Da’wat, pp. 73)

Dear Islamic brothers! Try to save yourself from satanic whispers even during
worship to refrain from ostentation because Satan continuously tries to instil
evil whispers in our heart. Therefore, just as it is important to have sincerity
in the heart before carrying out a virtuous action, similarly it is very necessary
to maintain this also during every good deed and worship.
Even though it is very difficult to think and ponder like this, but it is not
impossible. Initially, this act seems very difficult, but when you continue trying
for a long period of time and be patient, then through the favour and grace of
Allah , and through His enabling capability, it becomes easy. Our job is to
try; Allah is the One to give us success. (Nayki ki da’wat, pp. 94)

quarrel and put one another in difficulties; it is all due to this finger. The
person asked in astonishment: How can this happen? Satan replied: This city
you see in front of you. My finger will destroy and ruin it in a short while, and
people will start fighting and quarrelling with each other themselves. Satan
entered the city with the person. In a market, a confectioner was boiling
water mixed with sugar to make syrup in a big pan. Satan dipped his finger in
the pan, took out some syrup and applied it onto the wall. He then said: Now
watch how this city is destroyed. A few moments later, flies came and sat on
the syrup that was on the wall. Upon seeing a swarm of flies, a house-lizard
climbed the wall to eat the flies. The confectioner had a cat. Upon seeing a
house-lizard, the cat got ready to pounce upon the house-lizard. 2 soldiers
were passing by the market with a dog. The dog saw the cat and instantly
attacked it. The cat jumped in order to run away and fell into the pan of syrup
and died. When the confectioner saw his cat die, he killed the dog. Seeing
this, soldiers killed the confectioner. The relatives of the confectioner came
to know about this so they killed the soldiers. When the army came to know

Dear Islamic brothers! The extent of Satan’s enmity towards humans can be
seen from the fact that although he is misleading people through his various
tools and satanic whispers in this world, he even tries his best to make people
the eternal fuel of hell along with himself by misleading them at the time of
death, provoking them to commit sins and snatching the treasure of faith
from them. Satan did not have the ability to repent, that’s why he does not

want anyone else to repent and leave his companionship to eventually enter
Heaven. For this reason, he is preventing people from repenting in this world
and trying to snatch their faith at the time of death. He tries to mislead
people until the very last breath so that they lose faith and become deserving
of Hell. The satanic whispers that Satan continuously puts into the hearts of
people, they sometimes are so dangerous that it becomes hard to save one’s
religion and faith. For example, satanic whispers about divine decree, satanic
whispers about Imaniyaat [faith], satanic whispers about worship, satanic
whispers about knowledge related to purity and sometimes this ill-fated
Satan whispers evil about Allah . Let’s listen to a story relating to this:

prostrate towards a human made of clay when I’m made of fire? So Allah
replied: I do what I wish. All of the angels prostrated towards Sayyiduna
Aadam ,- . except Satan the outcast, who did not prostrate out of
arrogance so the angels prostrated again out of gratitude to thank Allah .
But Satan remained standing independently and did not feel any remorse for
his action. So due to his arrogance, Allah declared him as condemned
and expelled him from His court forever. His face dropped down like that of a
pig, his head like that of a camel’s head, his chest like that of a big camel’s
hump, his face like that of a monkey’s face, eyes wide open, his nostrils open
like that of a barber’s bottle, his lips dropped down like the lips of a bull, his
teeth sticking out like that of a pig and only 7 hairs in his beard; in this state,
he was thrown down from heaven and has become deserving of curse until
the Day of Judgement. Since then, he became famously known as Iblees,
condemned and Satan. (Mukashafa-tul-Quloob, pp. 79)
Definition of arrogance
To think of oneself as better than others, and to think of others as inferior is
called arrogance. Hence:
14
www.dawateislami.net
Satan’s enmity with humans Translated into English by Majlis-e-Tarajim (Dawat-e-Islami)
The Holy Prophet ٖ has stated: Arrogance is to oppose the truth
and think of others as inferior. (Muslim, pp. 61, Hadees 91)
Imam Raaghib Asfahani writes: To think of oneself as better than
others is arrogance. (Al-Mufradat, pp. 697)
Whosoever has arrogance in his heart is called ‘Mutakabbir’ [] ُﻣﺘَﮑ ﱢَﱪ.
Similarly, rely upon Du’a to save yourself from arrogance and other evils as
Du’a is the weapon of a believer. Therefore, do Du’a that O Allah! I want to

and Satan have overpowered me. Please help me in overcoming them. Make
me pious and humble in my actions.
