Right Place at the Right Time

Jose Randy Yoingco is a licensed Electronics
Communications Engineer and currently the Project
Manager for Remote Monitoring System (RMS). He
joined OneComm on October 28, 2019 and has brought
with him his almost 20 years of experience in
Telecommunications and Project Management.
Prior to joining OneComm, Randy worked for various
local and international companies, such as Smart
Communications, Nokia Networks, Department of
Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and
Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. His past roles took him to
different parts of the world as he was assigned to
countries like Mexico, Columbia, USA, Egypt, Taiwan,
Africa and Iran.
JOINING ONE COMM
Randy describes his employment with OneComm as
“DESTINY”. He recalls with great deal of fondness that
he applied three times before finally getting the job in
2019. He considers the last application as perfect
timing. It happened at the right time when he had
already acquired all the knowledge required for the role.
He looks back with gratitude considering that
OneComm has given him a stable job especially during
this pandemic and lastly, he is grateful for the trust
reposed on him by the CEO.

“OneComm has created a positive impact in my personal
life, skills and experience. I was given a chance to develop
my leadership skills. I am now handling a nationwide project
with many resources on-board. I was able to utilize the skills
and experience I acquired through the years.”
Randy prides himself on being part of the team that
successfully completed RMS Phase 1 Nationwide
Project (616 sites) and RMS Phase 2 Nationwide Project
(500 sites). Having hurdled and surpassed many
challenges for this project, he considers this as highlight
of his career in OneComm. He generously shares the
credit to his team. He recalls how his team persevered
during the toughest times. When the easiest thing to do
was just to quit and walk away, he and his team
continued to march on.
“Buo ang samahan ng team namin. Our
strength is samahan and tiwala sa isat isa.”,
he declares with a sense of pride and conviction.
This meaningful lesson of teamwork seems to have been
deeply imbedded in Randy and becomes even more
apparent as he continues to speak good words about his
team. This makes him even more a good leader. When
asked how he wants to be remembered as a leader, he
humbly says “Good Comrade”.

Randy admits that his leadership style has changed and
continued to evolve. During his younger years, he recalls
that his leadership style was kind of aggressive. He does
not seem so proud of that. “Before no emotions involved.
Trabaho lang. Pero now nag-aadapt ka na. Pinagaaralan
mo ang personality ng tao.” he confesses.
He also gives emphasis on the importance of having a
culture of inclusiveness, not just in a team, but in the
organization as a whole. Inclusiveness encourages
collaboration and discourages division.
"We create a culture inclusiveness regardless whether
the company and contribute to its success. We have
different skill sets, because we are unique individuals,
but if we pool that all together, the impact as a whole
makes it possible to achieve the goal.”

HARDWORK AND SUCCESS
Considering his streaks of successes in terms of his
career and personal life, not known to many, Randy
actually has very humble beginnings. Randy generously
shares that his parents were not able to finish their
education. He remembers during his younger years his
parents had no property of their own and they were just
renting a house in Manila.
Randy studied in public school from elementary to high
school and completed his college at Polytechnic
University of the Philippines (PUP). Life then, as he
describes it, was not as comfortable as it is now. Instead
of wallowing on self-pity, he took all these things as his
inspiration and motivation to strive harder in life. With
this background, he has learned the value of gratitude,
practicality, clear plan and direction. Now, he makes sure
that his hard earned money will be invested wisely.
Randy was able to invest his earnings in different real
properties and financial policies to secure the future of
his family.
Randy, aside from being a fighter in life, never stops
now, he aspires to get a Project Management
Professional Certificate and pursue further education,
particularly MBA, to enhance his career.
As a father of two, he commits and dedicates all his hard
work and sacrifices to his children. Fatherhood also gave
him a new measure of success, and that is his ability to
improve the quality of life for the next generation. This is
why he is committed to doing everything he can to
achieve that.
For Randy, the price of success is
“Hard work and little
bit of luck”.

Rigger Installer who have been with the company for 16
years. He had previous work experience in
telecommunications but had the longest work
experience in One Commerce. He also was a
construction worker, helper & a machine maintenance.

MESSAGE FROM MS. ERICA NG
Dear One Community,
Unit Head, Business Development and Welcome to the maiden issue of the One Community
Marketing newsletter.
Since this is the first, allow me to take you back to the early
days of One Commerce through my eyes. My very first trip
outside of the country was to the old Huawei Headquarters
in Shenzhen, China – where I accompanied our CEO, who
was the sole delegate of One Commerce at that time and a
bunch of potential customers who gave One Comm (and
Huawei) their first big break in the Philippines.
I was the oddest one out: Picture an eight-year-old girl in
pigtails, wearing her favorite pink shirt with chocolate
stains, skipping through a sea of pristine looking people in
the dullest shades of gray and black. And come lunch time,
the same chocolate-stained girl was the only one who had
the audacity to go up to *the* Chairwoman Sun Ya Fang
(who was vital to Huawei’s overall global growth spurt) and
ask her for another bowl of soup. To my tummy (and
mummy’s) relief, Chairwoman Sun happily obliged.
There is a point to this story – This 23rd of June, we
celebrate International Women in Engineering Day. I
dedicate this letter to the women of the One Community. In
a male-dominated field, I thank you for consistently proving
that a woman can climb up a tower, close a sale, and lead
teams just as good as any man could. Women like Sun Ya
Fang paved the way for women to experience success and
breakthroughs in this field. I hope we take it upon ourselves
to be an inspiration to pigtailed, chocolate-stained little
girls.
To the men in this organization, I encourage you to
continuously support your female colleagues. Success sees
no gender and if we lift each other up, we bring One Comm
to another level.
And lastly, this celebrates one of the greatest women (I
dare you to fight me on this one) this industry has seen –
Abbey Ng, who believes in technology so much her idea of
fun was to bring her daughter to an industrial base and has
pulled up every One Community member up with her in
every success this institution has achieved in the past years.

“Mendo”, as his colleagues would call him, already had an
experience with being a Rigger when his friend called
him and said that a project under One Commerce (the
TMB or Tower Mounted Booster) needed 12 Riggers;
given that he was not employed at that time, he applied
and after 2 years was hired for direct position due to his
great performance and hard work.
He recalls that he had a hard time travelling to work but
was given a chance to loan a motorcycle by the
management. ”Talagang wala akong masabi sa OC (One
Commerce). Hindi ako tatagal ng ganito sa company kung
hindi naging maganda ang trato sa amin ng management.
Hindi kami pinabayaan ng company. Kung mayroon man
kaming i-concern sa kanila, halimbawa na lang yung sa
biyahe namen, talagang tinutugunan yung concern namin”.
WORKING WITH ONE COMMERCE
“Nagbago ang buhay ko simula ng mapasok ako sa One
Commerce” he says proudly. Mendo was able to provide for
the needs of his family, his daughter was able to finish
college and is now working as an Accounting Staff in Ortigas.
He shared that from his previous employers, he was not able
to get any bonuses but here in One Commerce “May 13th
month ka na, may year-end bonus ka pa. Masaya yung
pamilya ko kasi may naiuuwi ako sa kanila.” Not only did
One Commerce helped his family, he was also able to travel
to different parts of the country – he shares that he finds it
memorable because he was able to do his passion as well as
seeing the beauty of our country. His unforgettable
deployments were in Batanes & Tawi-tawi. He was delighted
with the experience to travel as well as gaining knowledge
and exposure during these deployments.
Mendo emphasized how One Commerce helped him in Mendo’s short and meaningful message to AUN
difficult times, “Na-Ondoy kami noon, binigyan ako ni OC “Good health. Lagi siyang pagpapalain ng Panginoon
ng pera pamparepair. Hindi pinabayaran, ipinaloan, wala. at bigyan palagi ng lakas”.
Basta tulong nila sa akin.”. He recalls how generous AUN
was and that he did not have a difficult time asking for
assistance during those times he needed it. You can just
hear from his voice that he is beyond grateful with One
Commerce – the company who provided bonuses,
regardless of position, health card and even vitamins for
the health and welfare of its employees.
When asked about the strength of this organization –
without hesitation, he says that it is the support and
teamwork of people within the company and
relationship with our clients.

For the last part of our interview, I asked what his ”
message was to the new members of One Community.
He generously advises the following:

1. Show your dedication and hard work, and the
company will recognize that. You will be commended for
your hard work.

2. Share your knowledge – whenever we meet for a

project, we share our opinions on how we can do our
jobs better. When we do that, we have a good flow of
work and productivity.

3. If you have concerns, do not hesitate to share or

address it.

4. Be grateful. When the company provides merit

increase or any bonuses, even if it’s not the amount you
expected, still be grateful about it.

5. “Inuunawa ka, umunawa ka rin”. If there are delays or

any mishaps on the side of your department, or even the
management, learn how to understand. Learn how to be
patient. Learn to have a wider perspective.

Here is a story of Howard Schultz, a man who rose from

Howard was born from a very poor family. Neither of his
parents finished high school. His father spent his life working
as a low paid laborer. Their family struggled financially,
barely making ends meet. Howard was already working at the
age of 12. He sold newspaper and eventually worked in a
local cafe. He was able to go to college through an athletic
scholarship. When he shifted to a different course he had to
pay for his college tuition. In order to pay for expenses he
took loans, worked as bar tender and sold his blood couple of
times.
After graduating from college he worked with Xerox and
became a salesman. Later on, he moved to a Swedish
company that sold kitchen appliances, including coffee
grinders. He worked his way up to becoming a General
Manager. One of their clients then is Starbucks. He got very
interested with this company as it purchases their coffee
machines way more than huge stores. He decided to meet the
owners of Starbucks. After tasting their coffee, he
immediately fell in love with it. He saw the great potential of
the business and realized that he wanted to work with
Starbucks. He literally begged the owners to hire him. After
convincing the owners he was finally hired and eventually
became the Marketing Director of Starbucks.
On his business trip to Milan, he got interested with the
concept of Italian café. He proposed to the owners of
Starbucks the concept of creating coffee houses. However,
his idea was rejected. He resigned from his job and decided to
open his own coffee shop, which he named “Il Giornale”.
In order to fund the business he had to look for investors. His we stood up from every setback.

Moderna vaccines free of charge for all employees who want to get vaccinated
against COVID - 19.
First roll-out of vaccine will be in the first week of July 2021; however we are
still waiting for the confirmation from our partners if we are included in the
first roll-out.
Whichever vaccine comes first - whether from our company or through your
designated LGUs, we are encouraging everyone to get vaccinated - for your
safety, your family, colleagues and for business continuity.
