I. Definition and uses of the following Terms

1. Inferential statistics is a branch of statistics that allows us to draw conclusions about a

population based on a sample. We use inferential statistics to test hypotheses, make predictions,
and estimate population parameters.
Some common inferential statistical tests include:
 T-test: Used to compare the means of two independent groups or two related groups.
Analysis of variance (ANOVA): Used to compare the means of three or more groups.
 Chi-squared test: Used to test for associations between categorical variables.
 Regression analysis: Used to predict the value of one variable based on the value of
another variable.
2. Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient (also known as Pearson's r) is a measure of
the linear correlation between two continuous variables. It ranges in value from -1 to 1, with a
correlation of -1 indicating a perfect negative correlation, a correlation of 0 indicating no
correlation, and a correlation of 1 indicating a perfect positive correlation.
 Pearson's r is often used to assess the strength of the relationship between two variables,
such as the relationship between height and weight or the relationship between the
number of hours studied and exam.
3. T-test is a statistical test that is used to compare the means of two groups. It is a parametric
test, which means that it assumes that the data is normally distributed.
The t-test can be used to test a variety of hypotheses, such as:
Whether the mean of one group is significantly different from the mean of another group.
Whether the mean of a group is significantly different from a known value.
Whether the difference in means between two groups is significantly different from zero.
4. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is a statistical test that is used to compare the means of three
or more groups. It is a parametric test, which means that it assumes that the data is normally
distributed.
ANOVA is often used to test for the effects of different factors on a dependent variable. For
example, an ANOVA could be used to test the effect of different types of fertilizer on the yield
of a crop.
Here are some examples of how inferential statistics can be used in different fields:
Medicine: Inferential statistics can be used to test the efficacy of new drugs and treatments.
Education: Inferential statistics can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of different teaching
methods and curricula.
Business: Inferential statistics can be used to market products and services more effectively and
to make better business decisions.
Social sciences: Inferential statistics can be used to study a wide range of social phenomena,
such as crime, poverty, and education.
Inferential statistics is a powerful tool that can be used to gain valuable insights into the world
around us.
II. Essay

1. Differentiate descriptive Statistics from Inferential Statistics? (minimum of 100 words)

DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS AND INFERENTIAL STATISTICS are two branches of

statistics that are used to analyze data. Descriptive statistics are used to summarize and describe
data, while inferential statistics are used to draw conclusions and make predictions about
populations based on sample data.

DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS are used to summarize and describe the characteristics of a data
set. This can be done using a variety of measures, such as the mean, median, mode, and standard
deviation. Descriptive statistics can also be used to create visualizations of data, such as
histograms, bar charts, and line charts.

INFERENTIAL STATISTICS are used to draw conclusions and make predictions about
populations based on sample data. Inferential statistics are based on the assumption that a sample
is representative of the population from which it was drawn.

Some common inferential statistical tests include:

 T-test: Used to compare the means of two groups.
 Analysis of variance (ANOVA): Used to compare the means of three or more groups.
 Chi-squared test: Used to test for associations between categorical variables.
 Regression analysis: Used to predict the value of one variable based on the value of
another variable.

For data analysis, both descriptive and inferential statistics are crucial tools. While inferential
statistics are used to infer inferences and make predictions about populations based on sample
data, descriptive statistics are used to summarize and describe data.

Depending on your study issue, you will employ a particular sort of statistics. Descriptive
statistics are employed to summarize and characterize data. Inferential statistics are used to infer
conclusions and make predictions about populations.
