1)TA Training : Fr. George got trained by Muriel James and Claude Steiner, first disciples Eric Berne in
USA. Fr. Kandathil was a teaching member accredited by ITAA. Father returned to India in 1970, he ably
demonstrated his ability to blend theology, philosophy, and transactional analysis with his own personal
values and goals.

2)Establishing ICTA. Fr. George established the Institute of Counseling and Transactional Analysis
(ICTA) at Kochi, Kerala in 1973. ICTA is the pioneering institute providing systematic training in TA. He
also established two ICTA Chapters at Pune and Hyderabad . The ICTA Pune Chapter is successfully
functioning to spread TA in the Pune Mumbai Region

3)Spreading TA in India: Fr. George dedicated over 40 years of his life in spreading the message of
transactional analysis. He was instrumental in providing training in human resource development,
especially in the areas of Counselling, psychotherapy, Organization and Education. Fr. George‘s method
of teaching transactional analysis concepts emphasized its relevance and similarity to Indian culture,
philosophy, and values, which facilitated its spread and application.

He travelled to various parts of India to bring transactional analysis to more people and encouraged
the establishment of study groups in various cities. He was also instrumental in spreading the word
about transactional analysis in corporations in large metropolitan areas such as Mumbai, Calcutta,
Cochin, and Chennai.

Publishing of quarterly Journal: On the lines of ITAA journal, Fr. George published “U and Me” Journal.
TA trainees are encouraged to write articles on applications of TA in organization, psychotherapy ,
education etc

5) TA&Counselling courses in ICTA: Fr. George designed TA Basic course equivalent to TA 101. He also
made syllabus for Bernian Transactional Analyst (BTA) course which was at par with the CTA course of
ITAA. The BTA course was very successful . rewarding and less expensive . Later Master Transactional
Analyst (MTA) course was also started. These courses were recognized in the TA community and were
beneficial to the masses. TA Basic course, BTA and MTA courses are being conducted in most of cities in
India. Fr. George encouraged his trainees to go into the depth of the theories and find suitable
applications in the Indian context.

6) Organizing National Conferences: Fr. George started annual National Conference in


Transactional Analysis. These conferences were conducted at different locations in India for
reaching to common people. The conferences offered a platform for knowledge sharing and
opportunity for TA experts to present their work. He called foreign TA experts to grace the
conferences.

7) 7)Triology : Fr. George blended philosophy and psychology in the Indian context and created a
new theory called “Triology” which is based on TA concepts and emphasizes the spiritual
dimension in relationships. It is diagrammed as a triangle with relationship, identity, and
rationality as the three sides of an equilateral triangle . The model looks at the concept of
strokes at a deep level of relating and anchoring to God.

8) 8) Books authored : Fr. George wrote many books on transactional analysis and related topics.

9) 9) Awards: In the year 2012 Muriel James Living Principles Award was given to the late Fr.
George Kandathil, SJ, and the first person to receive it posthumously. The award was given for
his extraordinary lifetime contributions to the advancement of transactional analysis in India.

a) Commands to parents
