EDUC 5220: Curriculum Design and Instructional Decision Making

My research has taught me that there isn't a single explanation for what makes a curriculum.
Curriculum, according to Armstrong, Henson, and Savage (2015) is more than just an overall
plan for learning, and this statement has been supported by a number of other writers' differing
findings. As a result, curriculum is defined as all of the educative experiences learners have in an
educational program, the purpose of which is to accomplish broad goals and related specific
objectives that have been built within the context of theory and research, past and present a
professional practice, and changing demands of society (p. 10) by Parkay, Hass, and Anctil
(Henson, 2015)

I used to think that the curriculum was restricted to the syllabus—a list of books or subjects that
students in a particular course need to read in order to pass the exam. Still, that was not enough.
A curriculum, in my opinion, is how we transfer what we learn in the educational setting to real-
life situations in a particular culture. As a result, it ought to respond to the social critiques.
Giving society a chance to incorporate its goals is crucial. Curriculum should therefore take into
account the needs and challenges that contemporary society experiences. The educational
process ought to take place outside of the classroom.. The demands of society and culture should
be addressed when developing courses. It is a cultural expectation that students handle their
careers professionally. Instead of pressing our students to perform well on tests, if we take this
course, we are more likely to assist them develop their skills.

The second thing that motivates me is my aspirations to establish an educational institution for
languages someday. Thus, the previously given paragraph helps to reconsider what and why
students should learn in a certain setting.

All things taken into account some of these considerations might have an impact on the
educational programs that a country offers.
