In my opinion, LGBT has been normalized in Vietnam.
In recent years, many people
believed that LGBT was a disease and then found many ways to protect their children from it. Although significant challenges still exist, acceptance and legal recognition of the LGBT community in Vietnam is increasing. The Ministry of Health announced in 2022 that LGBT is not a disease and called on medical professionals to end discriminatory practices. This move is in line with global health standards and aims to reduce stigma. While same-sex unions are not banned, there is a lack of legal recognition and protection, and transgender people face barriers in changing their legal gender. Social stigma remains prevalent, leading to discrimination at home, school, and work, and causing mental health problems for LGBT people (The Diplomat). Despite these challenges, recent policy changes indicate significant progress for LGBT rights in Vietnam.
