The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has confirmed its Dragonfly
rotorcraft mission to Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, with a total lifecycle cost of USD 3.35

• Under these MoUs, AFMS will collaborate with IIT Delhi and IIT Kanpur to undertake research
and develop innovative medical devices and focus on addressing the health issues of the
soldiers in diverse terrains.

The MoU between AMFS and IIT Delhi were signed by Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Daljit Singh, Director
General (DG) of AFMS, and Prof Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi on 22nd April 2024.
Key Points:
i.Biomedical research ecosystem of IIT-D will provide the technical expertise needed for research in
diverse medical challenges faced in the Armed Force.
ii.Faculty exchange program, joint academic activities and development of joint PhD programmes were
also planned as a part of this MoU.

The MoU between AMFS and IIT Kanpur were signed by Lt Gen) Daljit Singh, DG of AMFS and Prof. S.
Ganesh, Officiating Director of IIT Kanpur on 18th April 2024.
Key Points:
i.Under this MoU, IIT Kanpur will provide technical expertise to develop Artificial Intelligence (AI)
diagnostic models, at Armed Forces Centre for Computational Medicine established in Armed Forces
Medical College(AFMC), Pune, Maharashtra.
ii.Faculty exchange program, joint academic activities and development of training modules were also
planned as a part of this MoU.
Note: AFMS’s collaboration with institutes of national importance like IIT is a part of its efforts to provide
highest level of medical care to the soldiers.

ILO Report: Annually 22.8 million Work Suffer Occupational Injuries, 18,970 Die Due to
Excessive Heat
According to the International Labour Organisation(ILO)’s report titled “Ensuring safety and health at
work in a changing climate”, annually 22.85 million occupational injuries, 18,970 deaths and 2.09
million disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) are reported due to excessive heat.

Key findings:
i.The report stated that large numbers of workers in hot rural regions of Americas, Africa, the Middle East
and India, are suffering from irreversible kidney failure.
• Epidemics of chronic kidney disease of unknown aetiology (CKDu) are affecting large numbers
of workers conducting heavy manual labour in hot temperatures.
• In 2020, an estimated 26.2 million people were living with chronic kidney disease due to
exposure to excessive heat at workplace.
ii.The report estimates that over 70% of all workers (~2.41 billion workers) are exposed to excessive
heat. The exposure to excessive heat has increased by 34.7% from 2000 to 2020.
Impact of climate change on workers health globally:
The report highlighted various health conditions in workers that have been linked to climate change such
as: cancer, cardio-vascular disease, respiratory illness, kidney dysfunction, mental health conditions,
among others.
i.Annually around 1.6 billion workers are exposed to solar Ultraviolet(UV) radiation, with more
than 18,960 work-related deaths annually from non-melanoma skin cancer.
ii.Over 1.6 billion outdoor workers are continuously exposed to outdoor air pollution.
iii.Annually, more than 3 lakh worked die due to pesticide poisoning and around 15,170 workers die due
to exposure to parasitic and vector-borne disease.
Key Points:
i.The report cautioned that climate change can induce negative impact on employment such as: job losses,
damage to business assets, decreased labour productivity and forced migration.
ii.At present, around 1.2 billion jobs rely directly on the effective management and sustainability of a
healthy environment, in particular jobs in farming, fishing and forestry
iii.The report suggested that nations need to frame and adopt climate-change- specific Occupational Safety
and Health(OSH) policies and integrate them with public health campaign.

Revolut India, a neobank backed by Tiger Global and Softbank, has received in-principle approval from

Note: Neobanks are digital-only banking platforms that operate solely online without any physical
branches.
Points to note:
i.The new license complements Revolut India’s existing licenses
from the RBI, allowing it to function as a Category-II Authorised
Money Exchange Dealer (AD II).
ii.It further enables the provision of multi-currency forex cards
and cross-border remittance services.
iii.With this, Revolut will provide Indian customers with both
international and domestic payment solutions through a single
platform.
PPIs and Regulatory Developments:
i.PPIs are instruments or payment tools that utilise stored
monetary value for transactions, including digital wallets, smart
cards, or vouchers.
ii.On 5 April 2024, RBI governor Shaktikanta Das proposed
linking PPIs through third-party Unified Payments Interface (UPI) apps, similar to bank account holders.
Note: India is the only market where Revolut offers a localised version of its app.
Future Plans:
Revolut plans to introduce digital-first money management services for Indian customers which will allow
the users to manage their finances, including payments, and remittances, both locally and internationally.

i.The collaboration will focus on training locals, especially women, in Hospitality, Retail, and Logistics in
Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Vrindavan in UP.
ii.ISKCON establishes a Culinary School, empowering tribal youth from regions like Palghar, Gadchiroli in
Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.
• Trained individuals have employment prospects at the 2025 Maha Kumbh Kitchen in Prayagraj

Narpat Singh Appointed as Railway Adviser of India’s High Commission in Bangladesh
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Narpat Singh as the
Railway Adviser in the High Commission of India in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
• Narpat Singh is a 2009-batch Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer. He previously served
as Director (Traffic Transpiration) on the Railway Board.
• He was appointed with diplomatic status as a Counsellor for a period of three years from the
date of assumption of charge of the post.

NASA Confirmed Dragonfly Rotorcraft Mission to Saturn’s Moon Titan
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has confirmed its Dragonfly rotorcraft
mission to Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, with a total lifecycle cost of USD 3.35 billion. The mission is
set to be launched in July 2028.

• This decision allows the mission to advance to completion of final design, construction and
testing of the entire spacecraft and science instruments.
Note: Titan is the second largest in the solar system after Ganymede, the moon of Jupiter. As of June 8,
2023, Saturn has 146 moons in its orbit.
About Dragonfly Rotorcraft Mission:
i.The dragonfly rotorcraft is targeted to arrive at Titan in 2034.
ii.It will fly to several promising locations on the Titan exploring the prebiotic chemical processes
common on both Titan and the early Earth before life developed.
iii.This will become the NASA’s first vehicle for science to fly on another planetary body
iv.The rotorcraft has 8 rotors and flies like a large drone.
Points to note:
i.Dragonfly is being designed and built under the direction of the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics
Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Maryland, United States of America (USA) which manages the mission for
NASA. Elizabeth Turtle of APL leads as principal investigator.
ii.NASA has provided an additional funding for a heavy-lift launch vehicle to reduce the cruise phase of the
mission.
iii.Dragonfly will be the first robot explorer to land on a planetary body other than the Moon or Mars, and
