LAB 6 - Experimental Design - 231016 - 232108
Introduction
Experimental design is a way to carefully plan experiments in advance so that your results are
both objective and valid. The terms “Experimental Design” and “Design of Experiments” are
used interchangeably and mean the same thing. However, the medical and social sciences tend to
use the term “Experimental Design” while engineering, industrial and computer sciences favor the
term “Design of experiments.”
In addition, Statistical knowledge helps you use the proper methods to collect the data, employ
the correct analyses, and effectively present the results. Statistical analysis on the other hand is
important in quantitative research because it helps in identifying the data trends and patterns from
the specific data samples. In quantitative data analysis you are expected to turn raw numbers into
meaningful data through the application of rational and critical thinking which enable you to
present accurate and reliable data.
Objectives:
• To discuss on the experimental design included statistical analysis used in a
research study.
Materials:
• Journal Article
Task:
1. Choose ONE article journal which contains at least TWO (2) different statistical analyses
/ tests.
2. Summarize the article and ensure that your summary consists of the following:
• Title
• Introduction
• Objective of the study
• Method (just in flowchart)
• Results:
o Include the results/data
o Discuss/review the statistical analysis used in the study.
▪ What type of statistical tests are used in this study?
▪ Why do the researchers used the particular statistical tests?
▪ Relate the statistical analysis used with the objectives of the study.
• Discussion of the study
• Conclusion
