MY DREAM LEADERSHIP STYLE IN THE FUTURE
WORKPLACE
I have always thought about being a leader in the future, I have began reading books
and listening to great men and women who have gone ahead of me, and whilst doing
that, there are people whose life has stood as a pillar and pattern for mine. The bible is
were I have gotten to see through the eyes of a leader and also the leader who God
wants me to be, I would like to use some of these people to paint a picture of the
leader I would like to be after school. I would be explaining the characteristics of a
leader and also citing examples of how these men embodied these characteristics.

A Leader is a Learner
Jesus was a Born leader, meaning that He had had prophesies written concerning
Him, way before He was born. However He still made sure, that He learned the
necessary things He needed to.
Jesus was a carpenter’s son, so He started out training under His father, Joseph (Mark
6:3, Matthew 13:55). He learned the trade and did the work. At the same time He was
also found in the synagogue speaking with the scribes and asking them questions
about the scriptures, having read it (Luke 2:46-47, Luke 4:17-20). He did this even
though he was God Himself, because He had to grow and develop (Luke 2:40).

Joseph, was also another man in the bible who was a remarkable leader, from the
story of his life we can see that he was sold to slavery from a young age by his
brothers but rather than letting the hurt stop him from achieving his dreams (which
God had already shown him beforehand). He went ahead to make good use of His
circumstance, Joseph whilst he was a prisoner in Egypt learned the lesson of not
complaining about your circumstance but rather as a believer trusting that even in dire
situations God is still able to keep His promise. He also learned the language of the
people around him (Genesis 42:21-23), He learned administration, organization and
leadership.

Apostle Paul was also a learner, we can see from scriptures that he trained under the
best teacher while he was growing up (Acts 22:3). He was also well educated, which

was why he was able to write so many epistles to the churches. He also learned how
to be in want and in surplus (Philippians 4:11-13).

So also I, before I get to my future work place I will learn the necessary things I need
to learn academically, spiritually, mentally, financially while I am in the university, so
as to show myself approved when I get to my future workplace. I will also keep on
learning realizing that I still need to grow and develop so as to be efficient to God and
man.

A Leader is an Enquirer
From the story of Joseph we see that He was a thoughtful and compassionate person,
he never let his circumstances make him bitter and uncaring. He had empathy, as all
great leaders do (Genesis 40:6-7, 41:).

Jesus, was also the greatest leader that ever lived, yet He was mindful of His disciples
(Luke 24:17). He had compassion and never turned down a case brought to Him
(Mark 10:51-52). He was found everywhere ministering to the needs of the people
and never lost a case, Although He knows all things it still made sense for Him to ask
questions.

As a leader, communication and interaction is inevitable. I would like to communicate


effectively to others, be a good problem solver and accept other people’s opinion.
How the people are doing? What makes them work efficiently? and so on. It shows
empathy, kindness and compassion, it means I am interested in their problems and
wanting to solve it, not just trying to be a boss of everybody.

A Leader is an Achiever
When I’m appointed a leader in my future workplace, I would like to define my goals,
set objectives and target expectations. Draft out short term and long term goals of
what I would like to achieve as a leader while I’m there.

Having understood my purpose like all the great leaders who have gone before me,
only a well planned out action can eventually be implemented. If i don’t achieve
anything it is like i never worked there.

Like Esther, her purpose for being in the Kingdom of Persia for such a time as that
was to deliver her people from genocide (Esther 4:8, 11, 14, 15-16) . Of course, after
it was made known to her she was able to achieve this by heavenly wisdom.

Jesus knew His purpose of coming to earth. It was to die for our sins, as expected He
too achieved this feat but there were other things He achieved while He was on Earth.
Like healing the sick, raising the dead, making the blind see and deaf hear. His fame
was noised abroad (Matthew 4:11-23)

Joseph is also a good example of an achiever, (Genesis 41:46-50). He didn’t just


delegate the work, he himself went out to do the work and in the seven plenteous
years they gathered more than enough to feed both their land and other lands far and
near.

A Leader is a Developer
As a would-be leader in my future work place i will like to develop myself first so
that i can eventually develop those around me by;
i. Being coached and coaching others. 1 Timothy 1:2, 18
ii. Putting others first instead of myself. Esther 4:16
iii. Listening by demonstrating genuine intent to understand. Acts 17:16-17
iv. Becoming aware of how I'm perceived by others. Acts 23:6
v. Clarifying roles, responsibility and accountability. Acts 6:1-3
vi. Encouraging healthy debates until a decision is made. Acts 17:18, 22-34
vii. Making deadlines for myself and keeping them. 1 Corinthians 4:19
viii. Taking advantage of short unstructured moments of time.
ix. Ensuring opinions are heard and respected.

Like King Uzziah while his heart was still right with God, he invented things,
developed plans and strategies and implemented them which was what made him and
his people strong and a terror to other nations.2 Chronicles 26: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12,
13, 14, 15 “Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the
valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them. Also he built towers in
the desert, and dug many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and
in the plains: husbandmen also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for
he loved farming. Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war
by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and
Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king's captains. The whole
number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valour were two thousand and
six hundred. And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven
thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against
the enemy And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears,
and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones. And he made in
Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the
bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones likewise. And his name spread far abroad;
for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.”

Joseph was a developer in that he developed the plan of how to survive for the coming
years of famine.Genesis 41:37-39, 36,49. He developed a plan to gather the corn, he
developed a plan to store the corn for the seven years of coming famine, so that rats
would not eat them up.

A Leader is an Enabler
I would like to do what ought to be done, when it ought to be done, how it ought to be
done. So that I can enable others to do the same, the art of delegation and seeing a
project through till it’s completion is an essential leadership sill.
For anything that is intended to be implemented to be carried out, speed and efficacy
should be taken into account, like Dr. Ben Carson once advised “we need to learn to
do tasks fast, but thoroughly and in the most efficient way”.
Also a leader enables the coming generation to take on tasks higher than they took on;
is ready to give the necessary resources for a good cause. He or she enables actions.

He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:
Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron:
Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.
The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.
He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance:
To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.

A Leader is a Restorer
Our Lord Jesus was a restorer, he restored broken hearts, brought joy to the hearts of
others. Restored our broken relationship with God, our communion with God.
God is the master restorer, Jeremiah 30:17; Job 42:10; 1Peter 5:10.

I must be able to restore anything that the past leader did not set right.

A Leader is a Collaborator
The most effective leaders can work with a variety of colleagues of different social
identities, locations, roles, and experiences. As the world has become more complex
and interconnected, good leaders find themselves spanning boundaries and learning to
work across various types of divides and organizational aspects. When leaders value
and embrace collaboration, whether within their teams or cross-functionally, several
benefits arise — including increased innovation, higher-performing teams, and a more
engaged and empowered workforce.I must learn to set differences aside and be
willing to face the issue at hand in other to get the best result, that will eventually lead
to the greater good of all. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12.

A Leader must have Integrity


Integrity is an essential leadership trait for the individual and the organization. It’s
especially important for top-level executives who are charting the organization’s
course and making countless other significant decisions. I will make sure to reinforce
the importance of honesty and integrity to managers at all levels.

A Leader must be Courageous
It can be hard to speak up at work, whether you want to voice a new idea, provide
feedback to a direct report, or flag a concern for someone above you. That’s part of
the reason courage is a key leadership trait — it takes courage to do what’s right!
Leaders who promote high levels of psychological safety in the workplace enable
their people to speak up freely and share candid concerns without fear of
repercussions. This fosters a coaching culture that supports courage and truth-telling.
Courage enables both team members and leaders to take bold actions that move things
in the right direction Joshua 1:6-9; Isaiah 41:10. As a future leader i must learn to
speak up about what is true and right, just like Queen Esther did by going to the King
after she knew the danger of going to the King uninvited. Esther 4:14-17; 5:1-3.

A Leader must be Resilient


Resilience is more than the ability to bounce back from obstacles and setbacks — it’s
the ability to respond adaptively to challenges. Practicing resilient leadership means
I’ll project a positive outlook that will help others maintain the emotional strength
they need to commit to a shared vision, and the courage to move forward and
overcome setbacks. A good leader focuses on resilience, both taking care of
themselves and also prioritizing leading employee wellbeing, too — thereby enabling
better performance for themselves and their teams. Romans 5:3-4; James 1:12; Psalm
37:23-24.

A Leader must show Gratitude

Being thankful can lead to higher self-esteem, reduced depression and anxiety, and
better sleep. Sincere gratitude can even make you a better leader. Yet few people
regularly say “thank you” in work settings, even though most people say they’d be
willing to work harder for an appreciative boss. The best leaders know how to show
frequent gratitude in one's heart and in the workplace. Philippians 4:11–12; 1
Thessalonians 5:16–18.
