1 Documentation for the Wavence product


family
This Wavence documentation set contains operating documentation for the Wavence
product family and the related network elements.
Wavence can be installed in several configurations:
• split-mount — an MSS-O/1/4/8 unit and an ODU (MPT or UBT)
• long-haul — an MSS-1/4/8 unit and an MPT-HL, MPT-HLC, or MPT-HLS
• MPR-e — an MPT ODU in standalone configuration
• MSS-1c — an MPT ODU in split-mount configuration with an MSS-1c
• MPT-MC, MPT-HC or MPT-HLC in Single NE with 7705 SAR configuration (future
release)

2 Documentation Center
Documentation Center is an application that provides access to Nokia product overviews
and technical documentation.

To enter Documentation Center, log into Support Portal Services tab first.

2.1 Accessing Wavence documentation


Purpose
To access Wavence documentation in the Documentation Center.

Procedure

1 Open a browser and navigate to Support Portal Services tab.

2 Log in with your credentials.

If you cannot access the webpage after logging in, contact your technical support
representative.

3 Select Documentation: Doc Center tile.

Step result
The Documentation Center appears.

4 Click on Wavence (Microwave Packet Radio) in the product list.

5 To filter or sort the documents on the documentation webpage, choose an option for one
or more of the following:

• Release - filters listed documents by the release number


• Model - filters listed documents by market (All Models, ANSI or ETSI)
• Category - filters listed documents by category type (Alarm, Configuration, Data
sheet, Installation, Upgrade)
• Content Type - filters listed documents by content type: All Types, Manuals and
Guides, Release Information, or Technical Notes
• Format - filters listed documents by document format: All Formats, PDF, HTML,
or Zip Collection
• Sort by - sorts listed documents by Issue Date, Title (A-Z), Number, or Most
Accessed.

Step result
The list of documents that meet your filtering and sorting criteria appears on the right.
You can choose additional options to reduce the number of results. Click RESTORE
DEFAULTS to remove the search filter.

6 Click Search.

The list of documents that meet your search criteria appears. You can click
RESTORE DEFAULTS to remove the search filter.

7 Select a document by clicking the associated icon to the far right.

• PDF icon - the PDF appears


• HTML icon - the document in HTML appears
• Zip Collection icon - the zip file downloads

2.2 Searching the Documentation Center for specific

Purpose
To search for specific text inside the Wavence documentation.

Before you start


This procedure only searches for text in PDF files.

Procedure

1 Open browser and navigate to: Documentation Center.

Step result
The Documentation Center appears.

2 Go to SEARCH INSIDE DOCUMENTS tab.

3 Click on 9500 (Microwave Packet Radio) in the product list.

4 Enter a search term.

To search for phrases, type the phrase within quotation marks; for example,
synchronous Ethernet.

5 Click SEARCH INSIDE.

6 To filter the results from Full Text searches, click OPEN REFINE SEARCH.

Refine your search by:


• Content Source
• Product
• Documentation Content Type
• Dates.

2.3 Searching in multiple PDF files


Procedure

1 Open Adobe Reader.

You can use Adobe Reader, Release 6.0 or later, to search multiple PDF files for a
term. Adobe Reader displays the results in a display panel. The results are grouped
by PDF file. You can expand the entry for each file.

g Note: The PDF files that you search must be in the same folder.

2 Choose Edit > Search from the Adobe Reader main menu.

Step result
The Search panel appears.

3 Enter the term to search for.

4 Select All PDF Documents in.

5 Choose the folder in which to search using the drop-down menu.

6 Select the following search criteria.

If required, select:
• Whole words only
• Case-sensitive
• Include Bookmarks

• Include Comments.

7 Click Search.

Step result
Adobe Reader displays the search results. You can expand the entries for each file
by clicking on the + symbol.

8 Click on a search result to go directly to that location in the selected file.

2.4 Proximity search


Purpose

g Note: Proximity searches can only be performed in multiple PDFs.

Procedure

1 Open Adobe Reader.

Use Adobe Reader proximity searches to reduce the number of results for a search.

2 Choose Edit > Preferences from the main menu.

Step result
The Preferences window appears.

3 Choose Search in the Categories window.

Step result
The Search preferences appear.

4 Enter a number (for example, 25) in the Range of words for Proximity searches field.

A lower number improves the proximity search.

5 Click OK to save the changes and close the Preferences window.

6 Choose Edit > Search from the main menu.

7 Click the Use Advanced Search Options link at the bottom of the Search window.

The Advanced Search window opens.

8 In the Look In drop-down menu, choose the folder in which to search.

9 Enter the terms for the proximity search in the What word or phrase would you like to
search for? field.

Do not use any text or punctuation (such as commas, quotation marks, and, or) to
separate search terms.

10 Choose Match All of the words from the Return results containing field.

Step result
The Proximity check box is now selectable.

11 Select the Proximity check box.

12 Click Search.

Step result
If the number of search results is too high or low, repeat steps 2 to 5 to decrease or
increase the value in the Range of words for Proximity searches field.

3 Discovery Center
Discovery Center is a new and improved version of the Nokia customer documentation
repository. Discovery Center is designed to enhance user experience with seamless
browsing, improved search capabilities, and faster access to technical documentation for
MN and select NSW products. Discovery Center is optimized for optimal readability and
offers efficient document management capabilities to our users.

Find the Discovery Center User Guide in the Operating Documentation section of
Discovery Center Product Page. You need to log in first.

3.1 Accessing Discovery Center


Purpose
To access Wavence documentation via Discovery Center.

Procedure

1 Log in to Support Portal Services tab.

2 Select Documentation: Discovery Center tile.

You are redirected to the Discovery Center webpage.

4 Symbols and typographic conventions

4.1 Safety symbols


A safety message indicates a dangerous situation where personal injury is possible.

The keywords denote hazard levels with the following meaning:

avoided, might result in minor or moderate
(reversible) personal injury.

A property damage message indicates a
NOTICE: hazard that might result in equipment damage,
data loss, traffic interruption, and so on.

4.2 Typographic conventions


These are the typographic conventions used in Wavence documentation set.

Italic This convention is used to indicate:

• parameter values

Bold This convention is used to indicate:

5 Rich media
Rich media enables user interaction with a given content. It simplifies and transforms
complex textual content, and presents it in an interactive and visually enhanced manner.

Rich media is created in HTML5. For displaying rich media content, use any of the
following browsers:

• Chrome (current)
• Firefox (current)
• Opera (current)
• Safari 5.1 +
• Internet Explorer 11+ or Edge

g Note: In case of using other browsers, the rich media object may not display or some
functions may not work properly.

6 Product documentation structure


Printable documentation is available as PDF files in OLCS. The PDF files can be
downloaded from OLCS for storage on company computers and printed out when
required.
The documents are divided into the following categories:
• Descriptions. Descriptions provide background information and detailed descriptions
of the functionality of the network element. Descriptions provide information on the
following areas:
– on the product as a whole
– on the different features
– on the hardware components.

• Software and Hardware Installation. Hardware Installation and Software upgrade


instructions.
• Deploy and Configure. Turn-up procedure instructions.
• Operate and Maintain. Information on system administration applications and File
configuration descriptions.
• Troubleshoot. Alarms clearing procedures.
• Reference. Information on technical specifications, frequency plans and cross-
connections reference tables.
• Engineering Support Documentation. Provides selected engineering documentation
including: system application rules, equipping option guides, signal flow,
interconnect, and installation drawings (ANSI-specific).
• Test Result Data Sheets. Test Result Data Sheets for short and long-haul
applications.

7 How to give feedback on documentation


There are several ways in which information can be sent to Nokia regarding
documentation.

This feedback can take the form of faults that have been found in the documentation
itself, or suggestions on how to improve the document.

7.1 Problem reporting


Purpose
To report a problem in Support Portal.

Procedure

1 Navigate to Support Portal from https://www.nokia.com/networks/business-


support/Business Support.

2 Navigate to Services tab.

You need to be logged in first.

3 Select Case Handling: CARES.

7.2 Giving feedback


In cases where you would like to ask about documentation or suggest a development
idea but not report your feedback as a fault, there are several channels available for
giving this feedback.

You can give direct feedback regarding Customer Documentation through this short
