Introduction to the Water Cycle

The water cycle is the continuous movement of water on, above, and below the surface of the Earth.

It is driven by energy from the sun and is crucial for maintaining life on our planet.
The Solar System

Evaporation

Evaporation is the process by which water changes from a liquid to a gas or vapor. This occurs

primarily from the surface of oceans, rivers, and lakes.

The Solar System

Condensation

Condensation is the process by which water vapor in the air cools down and changes back into

liquid water, forming clouds. This process is essential for precipitation.

The Solar System

Precipitation

Precipitation occurs when water droplets in clouds become too heavy and fall to the Earth as rain,

snow, sleet, or hail. Precipitation replenishes water sources on land.

The Solar System

Collection

After precipitation, water is collected in bodies of water such as rivers, lakes, and oceans. Some of

the water seeps into the ground to become groundwater, which can be used by plants and animals.
