PROJECT PROPOSAL

1 TITLE OF THE Breast Tumor Classification using arrays of microstrip Patch Antenna
PROJECT

2 RESEARCH GAP While the old works have demonstrated promising results in stimulation and
phantom studies, a critical research gap lies in the need for comprehensive clinical
validation .Real world breast tissue is highly heterogenous and factors like tissue
composition, patient variability ,tumor characteristics can affect the performance of
Microwave imaging technique.8 cases are studied to find the exact location of the
tumor and analyzing all the 8 cases of directivity,gain,S11 parameters to make the
breast tumor classification
3 OBJECTIVE The objective of our research is to develop an accurate and breast tumor detection
system by microstrip patch antenna. We aim to significantly improve diagnostic
accuracy, particularly for skin cancer, and contribute a systematic methodology that
can be adapted for various dermatological applications. Our ultimate goal is to
predict breast tumor that can help to prevent death of many women

4 METHODOLOGY The proposed antenna allows for breast tumor detection by analyzing the variation of
the reflection coefficient and SAR (specific absorption rate) analysis, as SAR values
tend to be higher for tumor cells. The antenna operates within the ISM frequency
band, and SAR analysis was conducted specifically for this frequency range. Copper
is chosen as the material for the ground and patch of the antenna due to its superior
conductivity and high reactivity, allowing for effective distribution of electrical
energy. Additionally, copper is harder and cheaper than other materials such as silver
or gold. The antenna substrate is made from FR-4 material, which is chosen due to its
relatively low cost and higher fabrication tolerance. The use of a microstrip antenna
for microwave imaging has several benefits, including nonionizing nature, low cost,
and harmlessness. Both the antenna and the human breast phantom model are
created using CST Studio Suite.

5 ABSTRACT In this research, a microstrip antenna is designed operating at microwave frequencies at the
ISM band implemented on a simplified model for both normal and abnormal breast tissue for
detecting the presence of a tumor in stage I, by comparing each of the return loss, gain, and
directivity, also eight cases of the tumor location were studied to reveal the location of its
presence . SAR Analysis also should be taken. All simulations and Results were carried out
using CST microwave studio
