WORKSHOP: RATIOS AND PROPORTIONS AND RULE OF THREE

Below, you will find 10 problem situations, which you must solve by applying the concepts
of ratios and proportions and the rule of three.

1. Ana María works in the tile trade, and her warehouse offers different types of
2
veneers, but the best seller last month is the stone finish, which is on sale: 50 m
for $350,000. Today, a client requested 340 m 2 of this type of tile. How much

X= 2,380,000

2. To prepare 3,200 empanadas, 40 kg of potatoes, 60 kg of meat and 50 kg of rice

are needed. If there is a massive event next week where 1,600 people will attend
and each of them will be given 3 empanadas, how many kilograms of potatoes will
be needed?

Answer:

60 kg of potatoes are needed.

Explanation:

1600 x 3 = 4800 pie in total

3200 4800 40 kg∗4800 192000 kg

= =x =¿
40 kg x 3200∗x 3200

x=¿ 60kg

3. To build a swimming pool, Pedro and Juan will spend 36 days; The project
manager demands that this work be done in a shorter time, and for this, two more
workers and two more assistants are requested. How many days will the entire
team take to build the pool?
Answer

The entire team will spend 12 days building the pool.

6 x 6∗x 6

X=12 days

4. A liquor distilling plant has different filters, and one of these pours 20 liters per
minute and takes 3 hours to fill a tank and the most used filter pours 30 liters per
minute, how much time will the latter take to fill the same tank?

Answer:

The latter will take 2 hours to fill the same tank.

Explanation:

20 3 20∗3 60
= =x =¿
30 x 30∗x 30

X=2hr

5. There are 20 pastry chefs working in a pastry shop, who work 8 hours a day and
produce 320 pastries. How many hours will it take 26 bakers to produce 520
cakes?

7. 16 workers work 9 hours a day for 30 days and build 12 km of road. How many
days will it take 18 workers working for 15 hours a day to build 15 km of road?

Answer:

To build 15 km of road for 15 hours a day with 18 workers working will take 20
days.
