Lesson Plan:

Aim
Students will learn about the letter “S”, its sound, and the Jolly Phonics action, as well as
identifying objects and animals that begin with the /s/ sound. They will also learn how to create
interactive stories related to the letter “S”.

Objectives
1. Students will be able to identify and recognize the letter “S” and its sound.
2. Students will be able to articulate the Jolly Phonics action for the /s/ sound.
3. Students will be able to identify and name objects and animals that begin with the /s/ sound.
4. Students will be able to create and tell interactive stories related to the letter “S”.

Possible Materials Needed


1. Picture cards of objects and animals that begin with the /s/ sound
2. Letter “S” worksheet
3. Jolly Phonics action chart
4. Letter “S” poster
5. Interactive storytelling worksheet

Anticipatory Set
1. Begin the lesson by showing the picture cards of objects and animals that begin with the /s/
sound and asking the class to name as many of them as they can. Ask the class to consider
the different sounds that the letter “S” can make and how it can be used in different words.

2. Introduce the Jolly Phonics action for the /s/ sound and ask the class to demonstrate the
action. Point out the different details of the action and how it is used to help distinguish the /s/
sound.

3. Ask the class to consider how the letter “S” can be used in interactive storytelling. Explain
