ENGLISH CLASSES OBSERVATION REPORT

The observation carried out took place on Friday, May 31 with grade 11-2 at the third hour,
which goes from 8:50 to 9:45 am To begin, it can be said that punctuality is an important
part of the teacher's classes, Hector Guillermo Burbano, since he always starts his classes at
the appointed time, which is a good example for his students. Once the English class
begins, the teacher uses his powers as a teacher to give an initial order to his class, since the
students take a few minutes to get settled after the time change. The requests that the
teacher makes to his students to start his class are in a cordial and friendly manner, but
without losing the rigor that they deserve. A few minutes after starting the class, the teacher
calls the attendance list and once the class is organized, he delivers material to his students,
or on some occasions continues with a topic or topic that has been previously covered in
previous classes. These are always focused on the study and analysis of ICFES tests;
Because the class is for grade eleven, the teacher concentrates all effort on the successful
completion of the test and on providing basic knowledge using readings and tests with
questions with answers type a, b and c.

As mentioned above, the educational approach used in grades eleven is oriented towards
the successful completion of the ICFES test and the improvement in the score levels
obtained; Therefore, the method used by the teacher is grammar and translation. It is also
worth noting that students have a basic grammar book that serves as reinforcement in
classes. In which come different exercises, readings, and practical exercises that teach and
test the students' knowledge. To talk a little about the exercises carried out in class through
this method, we can mention the production of precise and understandable grammatical
structures and constructions, the vocabulary that is taught through readings; which deal
with historical, cultural, sports topics among others, and particularly the understanding of
them using translation in order to relate the meanings of English words with those of
Spanish. Thus, a large part of the students learn during class.

Finally, it is necessary to point out that the use of this method is quite common in most
cases, so it can be said that the learning approach is based on the skills of writing and
reading English, leaving aside listening, speech and with it the pronunciation of the
language. However, as observed, this is a method that has been useful for the teacher;
although it is not complete. Since it does not promote the four basic skills of the language.
On the other hand, it could be said that this educational phenomenon occurs because the
personal and ideological interests of each student intervene.
