Crochet Course

In this section you will learn the basic concepts to start with this beautiful art.

Lesson 1: Why learn to Knit?

Lesson 2: Crochet Needle or Hook

This is the first entry in this course to learn how to knit. So let's start by learning a little about the main tool for
learning. They are very cheap and easy to get. I recommend that you stop by a store and look at the variety of
needles there are and buy the one you like the most.

Lesson 3: Parts of the Needle or Hook

Knowing the parts of the needle will help you understand the explanations of how to form a new stitch.

Lesson 4: Threads or Yarn

Crochet Course: Threads or Yarn
Do you already have your needle and do you know its parts ? Then it's time to get the ideal yarn to learn how to
knit. Look at the image above to know how to do it.

Lesson 5: How to hold the thread

Crochet Course: How to hold the thread
Holding the yarn is very important when learning to knit. It will depend on whether the stitches are tight or loose
and also how comfortable you will work. I recommend the way described above but you can find the one that is
most comfortable for you.

Lesson 6: How to hold the needle

Crochet Course: How to hold the needle
Just like the way you hold the thread, holding the needle is very personal and depends on the comfort of the person.
In the video below you will find the two most common ways to hold it and another way to hold the strand.

Lesson 7: The Lazada

Crochet Course: Lazada

If you have already found the most comfortable way to hold the thread and needle . Now we will learn a basic
concept: lacing. It is important to know the terms to be able to interpret the instructions that appear in fabric
magazines. This is one of the first ones we will learn:
Lesson 8: How to form the first knot
Crochet Course: How to form the first knot

Well, we will then start working with the first knot. It is important to learn it because if it is not done correctly, our
work could fall apart later and we do not want that. See how to do it
Lesson 9: How to read patterns. Crochet Course
Lesson 10: Chain or Chain Stitch
Crochet Course: The Chain or Chain

They're excited? Let's start with the first point: The chain or chain. In the explanation below you will see how to do
it. It is important that you pay attention to the symbol and the abbreviation, so you will be able to identify this point
in the patterns and instructions in the magazines. I recommend that you make many, many chains until you see that
the stitch is even, like in the photo below.
Lesson 11: How to count the chains
Crochet Course: How to count the chains

Very well, since we know how to make the first stitch called chain or cadenta , we must learn some basic
principles, such as how to count them. This topic can be confusing, but you should know it well when following
instructions in knitting magazines. I leave you the explanation below.
Lesson 12: Base and rise chains
Crochet Course: Base and rising chains

Although we already know how to make the chain and how to count it , before starting our first project, we are
going to make some terms and concepts clear. There are also several things to take into account.

TAKE NOTES:
 Crochet is knitted from right to left
 Practically everything starts with a row of chains. The amount will depend on the work to be done.
 Base chains must be differentiated from ascending chains.

For the last point see the explanation below:

In the next lesson we are going to see the different stitches that crochet has and you will see that each of them is
raised with a different number of chains, so it is good that you know the topic now.

Lesson 13: Basic Points

Crochet Course: Basic Stitches

As I mentioned in the previous lesson , today we will learn the basic points. With the table below, you will be able
to identify the different points in the magazines. You will notice that the main points are those that appear below,
and all the others are combinations of these. I did not include the chain, because we already learned it in a last
lesson
Through this course you will also learn how to do each of these points. In the video below I show you some points
apart from these, and what their symbols are. Try to memorize the symbols and their abbreviations so that when
you see the magazines and instructions it is easier to identify them.

Lesson 14: Where to cut in the base chain

Crochet Course: Where to crochet in the base chain
I was asked this topic a few days ago, because it can be a topic of confusion. In the image below, you can see that
there are several ways to start a new point. It doesn't mean that one is better or worse than the other, they are
simply different techniques.

In a past tutorial, I told you that the Wayúu backpack has a different place than the half point and is precisely the
first option of those found below. Without further ado, look at the options that exist:
You can choose the one you want and knit all the stitches like this, or you can knit the stitches as they were
originally taught.

Lesson 15: Slip, Dwarf or Running Stitch

Crochet Course: Slip, Dwarf or Running Stitch

Well, today we will learn the second point: Flat Point (it also has other names such as dwarf, run or very short).
This point is very useful, as we will see later how it helps us knit centered. It is also ideal for making contours and
finishes. Look at the explanation:
Lesson 16: Half Point or Single Point
Crochet Course: Half Stitch or Single Stitch

Waoo.. Without realizing it, we are already going to the third point. To make this stitch, it is necessary that you
have already practiced well how to make the chain because we will work this stitch on it. The Half Stitch is one of
the most practical stitches for doing tight work and also works very well for joining pieces. Look at the
explanation:

In the next lesson we will learn how to work it in the second round and from then on. Remember to practice the
stitch until you are satisfied with the result. Watch the following video on how to do it:

Lesson 17: Half Point (Second Part)

Crochet Course: Half Stitch (Second Part)
Well, we already learned how to make the half point . In the image below, I explain how to make the second round
with this stitch and also where to stitch. Look at the explanation:
Lesson 18: Half Double Stitch or Half Double Stitch
Crochet Course: Half Double Stitch or Half Double Double Stitch

We continue learning each of the basic points that we saw in the last lesson . Today we will learn how to do the
Half High Point or Half Double Point. Where I live we also call it slip stitch, but it can be confused with slip
stitch , so we will use only the first two terms in this course. Look at the explanation:
Lesson 19: Half High Point (Second Part)
Crochet Course: Half High Stitch (Second Part)

Yesterday we learned how to do the half double crochet . Today we will learn how to continue after the first round.
For this point and the ones that follow, I recommend that you make a long chain and practice them a lot, until all
the stitches are of the same height. These points can become irregular when one is beginning to learn them. But if
you practice, you can achieve it. Look at the explanation:

Also remember that in some lessons of this course, towards the end there is a button for you to upload the image of
your work. This way I will contact you and be able to help you more.

Lesson 20: Double Stitch or Double Stitch

Crochet Course: High Stitch or Vareta Stitch
Today we are going to learn another very important basic point when knitting. You will notice that almost 80% of
knitting patterns include this stitch. Have you already practiced the previous points? I hope so. Now let's see how
to make the palote:
Lesson 21: Double Stitch or Double Stitch (Part 2)
Crochet Course: High Stitch or Vareta Stitch (2nd Part)

In the last class we learned how to make this basic stitch called double crochet, double crochet or palote and which
is an essential part of crochet fabrics. Today we are going to learn what to do when we finish the first round and
how to continue working when starting the second round.

Lesson 22: Double High Crochet or Double Double Stitch
Crochet Course: Double High Stitch or Double Double Stitch

It's been a while since I posted about the crochet course, but I hope to be able to do it more often. Today we will
learn how to knit the double double crochet. This stitch is widely used in shawls or ponchos, as its height is perfect
for openwork work. In the explanations of my tutorials I will call it double palote, which is a variation on the name
of this point that is quite well known.

This is the explanation to make the point:

Lesson 23: Triple High Crochet or Triple Double Double Stitch
Crochet Course: Triple High Stitch or Triple Vareta Stitch

This is a very similar point to the one we saw last week, but with a higher height. With the explanation below you
will be able to identify and work with the triple double crochet stitch or triple double crochet. In my tutorials I will
also call them triple sticks. The names are always confusing, so I recommend that you become familiar with the
patterns. In the explanation below, you can see its symbol
The theory:
Lesson 24: Relief Stitch in Front
Crochet Course: Vareta Stitch with Relief on the Front
Today we will learn a point a little more advanced than those we have seen in this course. But don't be scared, it's
very easy to do. The embossed stitch is used from the front or the back. Today we will learn how to knit it from the
front. This stitch is widely used in hats, bags and baby shoes.

Look at the explanation:

Lesson 25: Embossed Stitch on the Back
Crochet Course: Vareta Stitch with Relief on the Back
In the last lesson we learned how to knit a double crochet stitch with relief on the front. Well, in most of the jobs
where we use that point, it is also necessary to use the relief point on the back. In fact, the one we are going to learn
today is even more commonly used. This point is ideal for making transitions between the base of a fabric and the
rest of its body.

Let's see the explanation:

Lesson 26: Pineapple, Bodoque or Chickpea Stitch
Crochet Course: Pineapple, Bodoque or Chickpea Stitch
The point we will learn today has several names. It is normally called pineapple, but I have heard it also called
chickpea, mota or bodoque. It is widely used in bags, blouses and blankets as it creates a fluffy and bulky fabric. I
leave the explanation below.

Look at the theory:

Lesson 27: Pineapple Stitch (Variation)
Crochet Course: Pineapple Stitch (Variation)

Last week I told you that the pineapple stitch has two variations to knit the second round. The difference between
the two is where you pick to knit the stitch. Both ways of weaving them are widely used, so it is good to know
them.
Watch the step by step:
Lesson 28: Popcorn or Speck Stitch
Crochet Course: Popcorn, Bodoque or Mota Stitch

In today's lesson we are going to learn how to knit a stitch very similar to the pineapple stitch. The result is similar,
but the preparation is very different. Like the previous point, it has two variations for the second round. Today we
are going to learn how to do this stitch and the first variation.

Look at the explanation:

Lesson 29: Popcorn Stitch (Variation)
Crochet Course: Popcorn Stitch (Variation)

Hi friends!! In today's lesson we will see the second variation of the popcorn stitch in its second round, so this
lesson is like the second part of this stitch. If you haven't done so yet, I advise you to watch the previous lesson.
Without further ado... I leave you the explanation and the practice.

The explanation:
Lesson 30: Pineapple Stitch with half double crochets
Crochet Course: How to knit a pineapple stitch with half double crochets.

This stitch is basically the pineapple stitch that we already know, only it is not knitted with double crochets or
double crochets, but with half double crochets or half double crochets. The name of this point is chickpea or
strawberry tree; In Portuguese I have found it as pipoca and in English, puff stitch.

The explanation:
Lesson 31: Pineapple Stitch or Puff Stitch

Crochet Course: How to knit the pineapple stitch or puff stitch

Well, the stitch that we have been looking at last class and this one, in Spanish we call it pineapple of dwarf
stitches or half double crochets. In English it is also known as puff stitch and is widely used to knit the flowers
seen on the cover. Here is a tutorial if you want to learn how to make these beautiful flowers: Puff Flowers Tutorial
.

Like all the pineapple stitches we have seen, there are two variations for the second round. In today's class we will
see the difference in knitting it more tightly in the second row onwards.

Knitted in Round
Lesson 32: Magic Ring
Crochet Course

Crochet Course: How to Knit in the Round with the

Magic Ring

To knit hats, folders or mats and amigurumis, the round knitting technique is used. To knit in the round you can
start the work in two ways. Today we will see the first one, which is with the magic or adjustable ring.

The magic or adjustable ring allows you to adjust the diameter until you achieve the desired center measurement by
pulling the thread that remains in the center of it. Look at the explanation:
Lesson 33: Knitting in the Round with half stitches
Crochet Course

stitches
8:26:00

Well, we continue with the knitting technique in the round. We already learned a way to start it, which is with the
adjustable or magic ring. This method is widely used when starting amigurumis (knitted stuffed animals). So in
today's lesson we will learn how to start and continue knitting in the round with half stitches .

Look at the explanation:

Lesson 34: Knitting in the Round with double crochets
Crochet Course: How to crochet in the round with double crochets

10:31:00

Hello again! We continue with knitting in the round using the adjustable or magic ring . Today we will see
how to do it using dowels or sticks. This is the most common way to start a baby hat, so I know you will find it
very useful.

Look at the explanation:

Lesson 35: Circle of Chains
Crochet Course: How to knit a circle of chains
7:50:00

In the last classes we learned how to knit in the round using the magic ring. The chain circle that we will learn
today helps us to start knitting in the round as well, but it is more useful when you need to knit more stitches at the
beginning. Let's see the explanation.

circle
Crochet Course: How to knit in the round with a
circle of chains
11:05:00

Well, we continue with knitting in the round and now we will see how to continue with the circle of chains. Let's
remember that this base is what the hats and cushions start with. The difference between this and the adjustable one
is obviously the size that can be adjusted, but this is more used when you want to start with a larger number of
points.
