Indifference movie essay
Barthes is a single substitute teacher who arrives to guide a group of students
without many expectations regarding their future towards the end of the school
year. As soon as he enters the room he is greeted by the openly violent hostility
of some of his students. When one of them approaches threateningly and
throws his briefcase against the door, he explains: “That briefcase is empty, it
has no feelings, I have no feelings either.” The other teachers at the high school
use different methods to move forward: from cynical humor, to giving up and
despite the punishment of teaching in that place, trying to transmit knowledge to
their students, to drugs and even, a moderate optimism. The students, on the
other hand, also have to find a way to face the world in which they live, that of
studying in a school considered one of the worst in their region and with a very
cloudy future; Some kill animals or have artistic pretensions and others, without
thinking too much, allow themselves to be carried away towards indifference.
The school microuniverse that we see in this film does not seem to give its
inhabitants many options.

The title seems very apt, Indifference , responds to that complex and difficult
attitude that we all know, we all criticize, but unfortunately we also practice or
have applied; with the race to solve our own problems, to set out on a path in
life, in the end with all this it seems that we lose sight of the idea of
contemplating the other, of stopping for a moment to help whoever needs a
hand at the moment; What if this happens to a teacher? We will be faced with a
situation full of internal struggles and, of course, indifference to the education
given to the students.

This film focuses on that significant trench in which thousands of world teachers
fight every day where they encounter the inevitable cause of educating a
generation that seems immune to their authority, without direction and without
aspirations and with which they It is increasingly difficult to generate dialogue,
communication and with those with whom the generation gap makes
coexistence increasingly difficult.
