SUBJECT: Quantum Mechanics and Statistical Mechanics KEY: SHEET 2 OF 10

RATIONALE OF THE SUBJECT

The subject of Quantum Mechanics and Statistical Mechanics has been included in the ESIME Communications
and Electronics Engineering study plans, based on the experience that technological advances linked to
electronics and communications, achieved in the previous century, have caused important changes in all
specialties of science and engineering. Regardless of the fact that in all of them the physical principles of the
subject have remained unchanged, now more than ever it is necessary for the Communications and Electronics
Engineer to have a solid base of knowledge that will help them understand and adapt more quickly to the
innovations that are emerging. present in the modern world No one can predict exactly what technological
advances will be achieved in the future, but one can be sure that the physical principles of Quantum Mechanics
and Statistical Mechanics will contribute to them.

Taking into account the place that Physics occupies as a science and foundation of modern technology, its
importance as a component subject of the Curriculum of the Communications and Electronics Engineering careers
is perfectly defined.

This subject has as a background: Algebra, Differential and integral calculus, Differential equations,
Classical mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Mechanical waves.
This subject has as a consequence: Electronic Devices
