things standard protools is bad at and reaper is good at
sound design to video edition
on windows 10
times frozen/crashed/had to end task: 1
can't slice video can't press windows key when in protools can't trim length of video have to painstakingly adjust the larger window that the mix and edit window live in. does not work well with two monitors of different sizes no separate button for pause/stop, insertion follows playback exists video window dissapears when any other window opens; new track, marker, track naming taskbar icon doesn't display properly completely forgot folders are a "new" feature in protools that has existed in reaper can't copy/paste tracks, can only duplicate routing the output of a track to a routing folder doesn't give the folder name but the default "Folder #"? - you have to manually rename the output send to the track name? - oh right you have to use busses to route things - Gee i sure hope i don't run out of busses collasping a folder track competely hides the child tracks?, doesn't even give a compacted view in workspace, cannot select portion of audio track, must import whole track then trim no easy way to turn a stereo track into mono, can't downmix channels -importing a stereo audio file onto a mono track give the LR channels, have to remove one of the channels time stretching with the TCE tool renders the clip into a new file so simple way of adjusting pitch on clips, have to use audiosuite and render "The Trim operation cannot be performed because the trach you have selected contains a fade on the clip you are attempting to Trim" - can't stretch clip that has a fade - Even when you think you've remvoved the fade by sliding it to the edge of the clip, it's still there, have to right click > Delete fades. solo mode got reset after ending task? good thing: being able to adjust the seek time by frames is nice timeline playhead/selector dissapears when selecting a clip, would be nice if it stayed so it's easier to line up sound effects "The Avid Video Engine stopped unexpectedly" dragging a plugin over a plugin deletes the previous plug in instead of shifting it down in the chain - cannot undo deletion of plugin
