1 .- PARTITION INSULATED TO THE STRUCTURE

The structure of a building can have one of two types of partitions: partitions attached
to the structure or partitions isolated from the structure. The type of partition walls of a
building is defined by the design engineer in the conceptual part of the building
structure.

In the partition walls isolated from the structure, all the lateral and upper edges of the
walls are separated from the structural elements through the use of technopore sheets
or elastomeric sealant. This type of partition allows the walls, in their plane, to have no
interaction with the frames that frame them during an earthquake and to behave
independently.

In the partition wall isolated from the structure, the vertical reinforcement steel rods are
anchored at the base of the wall in the concrete slab and at the top of the partition wall
the support is articulated using the STANDARD CHINESE EYE. For placement, the
slab is drilled with a drill and the STANDARD CHINESE EYE is glued to the concrete
with epoxy adhesive.

PARTITION WALLS

In ceilings with lightened plastered slabs, the case occurs in which the vertical rod “falls”
under a roof brick, so here you can also use the STANDARD CHINESE EYE that is glued
to the “brick + plastering” compound with epoxy adhesive. Drilling is also done with a drill
and a rotary hammer should never be used.

2 .- ANCHORING RODS TO THE CLAY ROOF BRICK PLATED WITH STANDARD
CHINESE EYE.

To determine the ultimate shear load of the anchor, tests were carried out in the Anti-
seismic Structures Laboratory of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Anchors
were tested with 8mm, 3/8” and 1/2” corrugated rods to industrially manufactured 8-
hole clay roof bricks. The plastering of the roof brick was 1cm thick and was done with
bagged FINE MORTAR FOR WALL PLAYING.

With the results of the tests at the PUCP, a table of allowable shear loads was
prepared for anchoring ø8mm, ø3/8” and ø1/2” corrugated rods in clay roof brick with
1cm plastering using STANDARD CHINESE EYE.

STANDARD CHINESE EYE

The following tables have been prepared with the allowable load values, following the
provisions of Standards E.030 and E.070 for building partitions.
TABLE 1: ANCHOR OF VERTICAL RODS TO ROOF BRICK LADDER WITH STANDARD
CHINESE EYE

First, identify if the wall is plastered or plastered on both sides and enter TABLE 1A or
TABLE 1B as the case may be.

Second, determine the heights of the partitions shown in the architectural plans, for
each of them see in the corresponding table the type of silico-calcareous plates P-7, P-
10, P-12 or P-14 to be used.

Third, once the type of plate to be used has been established, see the diameter and
spacing of the vertical reinforcement rods required for that height and thickness of the
finished wall.

Important notes:
1 .- The thickness of the plastering of the lightened ceiling must be, at least, 1cm.
2 .- The clay roof brick must have a quality certificate issued by an accredited laboratory.
3 .- Valid only for LACASA STANDARD CHINESE EYE glued with epoxy adhesive .
4 .- See measurements and characteristics in the Technical Specification of LACASA STANDARD CHINESE EYE.
