OCCUPATIONAL RISKS

03 INSHT BINARY METHOD | RISK ASSESSMENT SHEET

INSHT SIMPLIFIED BINARY METHOD

There are risks that, due to their nature, complexity and capacity for damage, must be evaluated and controlled under
accepted scientific technical foundations. For these purposes, the company will assume the hazard identification and risk
assessment methodology that it considers in accordance with its operation and will prioritize those that are significant in the
evaluation.

Risk assessment is the process aimed at estimating the magnitude of those occupational risks present in jobs that could not be
avoided, obtaining the necessary information so that the Organization is in a position to make an appropriate decision on the
need to adopt preventive measures and, if applicable, the type of measures that should be adopted.

Next, we will present the INSHT Binary method (simplified) of a general nature, valid for the evaluation of most risks, even so,
we may encounter various risks that will require specific methodologies, with a more complex measurement process.

After applying this methodology for years, it has been proven that it does its job in a way that is simple for those who apply it,
but at the same time technically complete, and that it allows taking a photograph of the working conditions, assessing their
risks, so that allows prioritizing preventive improvement activities. Therefore, preventive OSH management does not end with
the evaluation of occupational risks. It is not an end but a means to achieve the progressive improvement of working
conditions.

The evaluation method proposes the general risk assessment through the following phases:

1. Determination of jobs: It should not be confused with the professional categories so common in the company. It is
about identifying the job and the associated tasks.
2. Risk assessment:
• Hazard Identification
• Risk estimation
o Severity of damage
o Probability of the damage occurring.
3. Risk Assessment: Say if the risk is tolerable.

The information obtained from the Risk Assessment will be the basis for planning preventive actions, as well as determining the
necessary training for collaborators, among other preventive activities.

RISK ANALYSIS

The developed method is based on determining the potential severity of the damage and the probability of the event
occurring. In this way, the risks for each danger will be evaluated, in order to be able to classify the dangers according to the
level of risk and in order to prioritize preventive actions in the company.

RISKS

SEVERITY OF DAMAGE

To determine the potential severity of damage, consider:

• Parts of the body that will be affected.

• Nature of the damage. Grading it from slightly harmful to extremely harmful.
PROBABILITY OF DAMAGE OCCURRING

The probability of damage occurring is graded from LOW to HIGH with the following criteria:

• High Probability; damage will always or almost always occur.

• Medium Probability; Damage will occur on some occasions.
• Low Probability; damage will rarely occur.
Among the factors that must implicitly be taken into account in the probability is the frequency of exposure to the hazard.

RISK LEVELS

With the factors previously analyzed, and the table described below, the estimate of the risk level is obtained.

SLIGHTLY HARMFUL HARMFUL EXTREMELY HARMFUL

LOW Trivial risk Tolerable risk Moderate risk

HIGH Moderate risk Significant risk Intolerant risk

These levels form the basis for deciding the preventive action that must be carried out, prioritizing this action according to the
criteria that define each level, these being the following:

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
We will conclude the Risk Assessment process, proposing preventive measures in order to eliminate risks, control them or
minimize the consequences.

In the process of proposing preventive measures, the following order must always be considered:

• Combat the risks of their origin.

• If it is not possible, propose collective preventive measures.
• As a last option, have the appropriate Personal or Individual Protective Equipment.
RISK ASSESSMENT SHEETS | SUMMARY SHEET

Below we show two examples of a risk assessment sheet and a risk assessment summary sheet.

The examples shown should be the basis for the documentary support that the entire Organization must have for correct OSH
management.

WORKSHOP | RISK ASSESSMENT SHEET | SUMMARY SHEET (Individual)

Your task is to Assess risks with the INSHT Simplified Binary Method to 4 (four) jobs defined below according to the first letter
of your last name using the examples given in the previous explanation of the method for (1) the Information Sheet. Risk
Assessment and (2) the Summary Sheet individually.

It must be carried out following the instructions and examples, and attached to the EDUCATIONAL platform in the format you
decide ( Power Point, Word, Excel, etc. ).

Step by step instructions:

1. Identify which jobs you should develop individually according to the first letter of your paternal last name, For
example: Juan Perez; Perez with “ P ”. In this case, the job positions would apply: MT Maintenance Lineman,
Forklift Operator, Delivery Driver and SENAFRONT Unit.

2. Prepare the following in the program or format of your preference (Word, Power Point, Excel, Project, Visio, etc.),
taking as reference the examples given in the previous section:
2.1. Risk Assessment Sheet for each of the jobs that apply to you; There are 4 according to your last name initial
letter.
2.2. Risk Assessment Summary that must contain each and every one of the cards and their assessed risks in a
summary manner.
3. Once point 2 is completed, you must upload the document to the EDUCATIONAL platform.
