NAME OF THE PROJECT
INNOVATION:

This innovation project is called: "24v ALTERNATOR TEST

BENCH", which is presented for approval in the city of Juliaca, so
that after its approval the execution of the same can begin in the
workshop. called “Joselito” automotive electricity, located at Psje
San Jose No. 110, in the city of Juliaca.
OBJECTIVES OF THE INNOVATION PROJECT:

GENERAL OBJECTIVE:

•Alternator fault diagnosis in a short time and in an efficient manner.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

•Serve the customer in a more comfortable way, allowing them to witness the alternator tests on
specialized equipment.

•Work efficiently in each of the tests, demonstrating certainty and speed.

•Detect alternator faults according to the tests carried out on the test bench.

•Get the tests right on the different components of the alternator.

•Perform efficient and accurate work in diagnosing failures of the entire charging system of the vehicle
unit.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

TECHNOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE:

THE ALTERRNATOR
The alternator is an electric current generator that transforms the mechanical
energy it receives on its shaft into electrical energy that, in addition to charging the
battery, serves to provide electric current to the different consumers of the
vehicle, such as: the fuel supply system. , the ignition system, lights, windshield
wipers, etc.
The alternator and its parts:
THE ROTOR:
It is responsible for creating the inductive magnetic field which causes the induced winding to
electrical current that is then supplied by the alternator. The rotor is in turn formed by an axis
or tree on which the magnetic core formed by two pieces of forged steel is mounted
that have projections or fingers intertwined without touching each other, which constitute the poles of
the
inducing magnetic field. Each of the two halves of the core fills 6 or 8 projections. With what
which results in an inductor field of 12 or 16 poles.

copper contacts, to which the ends of the
inductor coil are attached. TO
through the rings, and by means of copper slip rings and two graphitized
carbon brushes, the coil receives the excitation current generated by the alternator itself
through the rectifier equipment (self-excitation).

THE DIODES:

The rectifier is formed by a bridge of 6 or 9 silicon diodes, it can go

mounted directly on the housing, next to the slip rings or on a
support (plate) in the shape of a "horseshoe", connected to each of the phases of the
stator, forming a rectifier bridge, obtaining at its output a
direct current voltage.
THE BRUSHES:
- Check that the brushes slide smoothly in their holder housing and that the power supply
cable is not broken or detached from the brush.
- Check that the brushes sit perfectly on the slip rings and that their length is greater than
10 mm; If it is less than this length, change the support assembly with brushes.
- With a multimeter, check the continuity between the electrical terminal of the brush
holder and the brush, and also the insulation between both with respect to ground.

WORK DONE IN THE WORKSHOP
The fans:
Alternators that have a fan on the drive housing side are cooled by internal
ventilation. The air enters through the slip ring housing side, cooling the diode
bridge, the rotor, the stator, and then exits through the drive side housing.
Therefore the cooling air is sucked in by the fan through the alternator.
