Our numbering system is decimal because ten units of one order form one unit of the next
higher order.
It is positional because the value of a figure depends on its position in the number.

To read or write a number with words, start on the left reading or writing:
COMPARISON
If one of the two numbers has more digits than the other, it is clear that it is greater.
89,007,301 > 9,989,967 because the first one has more figures.
98,328,322 < 100,001,001 because the second one has more figures.
If both numbers have the same number of digits, they are compared digit by digit starting in
highest order (from left to right) until they are not equal.
In this case 432,891,346 > 432,881,346 because the figure in Tens of Thousands is greater in
the first than in the second.
If we want to compare the numbers 763,225 and 763,427, we draw a graduated line placing
on the left a point smaller than the smallest number and on the right another point larger than
the largest number. By indicating the position they occupy we already have the graphic
answer.
