Writing on observation

After finishing the assignment presentation of MPPG course I got into a bus named Prochesta
from the Bashundhara gate (a residential area) near the Jamuna Future Park with my course mate
Mr. Mohammad Yasin to go to Gulistan to meet another friend in front of the Bangladesh
Secretariat. The police stopped the bus flyover and directed to go another way because of going
on a rally of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). We got down from the bus and went to
Shantinagar More on foot, and found a huge gathering here and there. They were shouting and
expressing their demands in a body hoisting their party flags through criticizing the ruling
government as dictator. On the road, it seemed to me, there was a sea of people and blocked the
road, the police were doing their disciplinary works. As a result, there was a huge traffic on the
road and the people were sufferinf a lot. I tried to search a vehicle or rickshaw but failed! At
that time, I observed BNP activists from different parts of the country started gathering in front
of its Nayapaltan central office ahead of the party’s today rally there. Through speaker (mayek),
they were saying that the party would announce the next course of action at the rally to press
home its one-point demand for polls under a non-party interim government. Their demands
were-the ruling government must resign after dissolving parliament; a non-partisan caretaker
government must be formed according to the constitution; the caretaker government must form a
neutral election commission and that EC will ensure a level-playing field; the use of EVMs and
party symbols in local government elections will be rejected ; convictions of all the opposition
leaders and activists, including Khaleda Zia, journalists and Alems will be free; and all "false
cases" filed against them should be withdrawn. The demands added that there will be no barrier
to holding rallies, prices of daily essentials should be brought under common people's capacity
and the market should be syndicate-free; a commission must be formed to identify the corruption
in banking and energy sectors and share market; all the victims of enforced disappearances in
last 15 years should be rescued and those responsible for extrajudicial killings identified and
punished. Criminals responsible for attacking houses and places of worship of the minorities
should be brought to book; and steps should be taken so the law enforcement agencies, judiciary
and administration work independently and without any interference of the government.
