Step 2 Calculate the forces and moments (about A) on the wall

Step 3 Check factors of safety (FOS) against sliding and overturning.

Summing all horizontal forces:

Disturbing forces (1) to (4) = 56.05 KN

Restoring forces (5), (6) and (12) = 112.38 KN


U/s cut off on return wall act as shear key to resist
FOS against sliding = 2.01 sliding failure

Minimum factor of safety = 1.5 Acceptable
